Most markets in Asia rose sharply.

The Nikkei rose 1.7% to 15,135. Canon rose 2.6% to 5580. NEC (NIPNY) rose 5.7% to 499. Sony (SNE) rose 4.5% to 5600.

The Hang Seng was up 4.1% to 27,627. China Petroleum (SNP) rose 9.5% to 11.3. China Unicom (CHU) rose 8.5% to 15.58.

The Shanghai Composite fell 1.5% to 4,959.
