Markets in Europe were higher at 6.40 AM New York time

The FTSE was up 1.1% to 6,066. Barclays (BCS) was up 1.6% to 515. HSBC (HBC) was up 3.2% to 796

The DAXX rose 1.5% to 6,980. Daimler was up 2.1% to 56.7. Siemens (SI) was up 1.9% to 90.41.

The CAC 40 moved up 1% to 4,967. Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) was up 2.7% to 4.24. Credit Agricole was up 3.2% to 18.83.
