Markets in Asia fell sharply.

The Nikkei was down 2% to 13,335. Canon was down 4.9% to 5100. Mazda was down 5% to 527. Sony (SBE) was down 4.2% to 4360.

The Hang Seng fell 1.9% to 22,647. China Lfe (LFC) was down 3.6% to 29.30. China Netcom (CN) was down 4.1% to 22.50. China Unicom (CHU) was down 4.2% to 15.18.

The Shanghai Composite dropped 1.4% to 2,870.
