Markets in Asia fell sharply.

The Nikkei dropped 5% to 8,577.

The Hang Seng fell 5.2% to 13,586. HSBC (HBC) and China Life (LFC) both dropped sharply.

The Shanghai Composite was down 2% to 1,729.
