Ken Lewis scammed Meredith Whitney, assuring her that the dividend was safe. Ms. Whitney believed him, and wrote that the dividend was safe, based upon her interview with Mr. Lewis. Those of us who kept our shares in
Bank of America based upon Mr. Lewis's assurances have taken an awful beating. I am hopeful that Ms. Whitney
will have reservations in the future about believing Mr. Lewis. In fact, I hope his board has reservations about
believing him. His spin on Mr. Thain was just shameful. It became apparent that Bank of America -- and by extension, Mr. Lewis -- were complicit in the early awarding of bonuses to Merrill Lynch employees, The purpose, of course, was to keep the bankers from jumping ship. Thain was scapegoated by Mr. Lewis in the press; I'm glad that Mr.
Thain had the pluck to fire back with the charge that Bank of America not only had knowledge of the premature
payments, but was an actual participant. Not far in the future, these slimy tacttics will catch up with Mr. Lewis, and
he will be forced to jump. Let's hope that his golden parachute has holes in it....
