To be fair, almost all libraries in this country offer "free" (tax-funded) internet service. You don't know where anyone is posting from, and they could very well be at the nearby public library. Besides, many people still use computers they bought 2-3 years or more ago (ie, before the recession), and if they use dial-up to access the internet the fee is nominal. Furthermore, many people have looked for a job for weeks but to no avail. Can you really blame them for taking a few minutes out of their day to read and respond to current events rather than perform yet another fruitless search on careerbuilder or monster? I certainly hope you are not in a decision-making position at work or - god forbid - in the government, as your short-sighted view of things is rather disturbing.

You know what? If you are busy responding on a computer to these stories, then the sky must not be falling like you want us to believe. You can still find the money to pay for internet service, not a necessity. You can still find time to surf the net, not look for a job or work a second job. You can pay the extra money on your electric bill it takes to run your computer. You can pay for a computer and all it's accessories. I'm sorry folks, I have a hard time believing we are even close to a depression, or even a bad recession. Yeah, things are not as good as they were several years ago, but everything goes in cycles. Back in early 2000's everything was expanding too fast, everything. Too much building, too much escalation in home prices, etc. This is what needs to happen to bring things back to reality. The pace of development and consumption was unsustainable, thank GOD. I wish our government would just realize this and get their HANDS OFF.

This guy McIntire drives me insane. What was he saying last week about oil with comments aimed at hyping the price of oil back up with rumours, much as what was going on with the oil headline madness during the spike last July? Give it a break, McItire. People can read thru your hype. The sales for my business keep increasing from year to year, even during this recession or depression or whatever YOU call it. Continued fear mongering isn't going to help stimulate this economy one bit. Knock it off.

I agree. What ever happened to freedom in America? We are all slaves to our jobs (those of us that still have a job) and we barely have any time to actually enjoy the greater things in life. America is depressed!! Fat, over worked, and under paid!

I've noticed for years most Americans are depressed. I think it comes from having to spend a bundle on insurance and transportation spend hours driving to work a crap job for peanuts and bloat up like a whale in the process all while receiving a laughable 1 or 2 week vacation per year (and those are the lucky ones).

I think this is a very interesting study. Is depression here or not? not very clear. But if you look at the past history recessions and depressinos come and go. Economies go through cycles and recession is part of the cycle. I read the history of cycles at http://www.recessioninfocenter.com

so if you tighten up during recession it makes sense
