Markets in Asia were modestly higher.

Japan was closed for a holiday

The Hang Seng was up .2% to 16,405.

The Shanghai Composite moved up .3% to 2,568.

At the open in Europe, the FTSE was up .2%. The Dax fell .1% to 4,899. The CAC 40 was down .1% to 3,240.
