The Labor Department has just released its inflation data via Consumer Price Index readings, and it seems that inflation is still remaining tame. The headline and nominal CPI came in flat at 0.0% and the core CPI on an ex-food and energy basis came in at +0.3%.
We had Bloomberg estimates for CPI at 0.0% on the nominal headline CPI, and had estimates at +0.1% on the core CPI.
On a year over year basis, the headline CPI was -0.7% and the core rate was +1.9% year over year on an ex-food and energy basis.
April’s energy prices were down 2.4% from march, but down 25.2% from a year ago. Housing is still a monster component, and that came in at -0.1%. Without surprise, the medical care costs rose by 0.4%.
