The pressure on the FDA to take measure sthat would lowere the salt content of food increased today. According to the AP, “the prestigious Institute of Medicine said the food industry hasn’t done enough to voluntarily cut back. It urged FDA to set maximum sodium levels for different foods in a stepwise rollback, so people have time to adjust to the change.”
Another option to regulate salt and sugar content it to create “sin taxes” on foods which contain them. A well-designed levy could bring in $70 billion a year to the federal government.
