AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is announcing the introduction of its “virtual private cloud” as a service along with VMware Inc. (NYSE: VMW) with VMware vCloud Datacenter Service.  This is not for Joe Public but is intended for enterprise-class customers (businesses and large organizations).  AT&T noted that the cloud service combines virtual private networking technologies from the two companies and is embedded dire
ctly into AT&T’s network.

As noted, “This means compute and storage services can be scaled, managed, routed and delivered to business customers, down to virtually any fixed or mobile device, quickly and flexibly, on demand, with enterprise-grade security and performance.”

Furthermore, AT&T noted that the service “allows VMware’s more than 350,000 customers to extend their private clouds across and into AT&T’s network-based cloud using AT&T’s industry leading VPN.” It also supports bursting, data center extensions, disaster recovery, and mobile application development and deployment.

VMware is up almost 2% at $96.22 against a 52-week range of $74.04 to $111.43.
