Boeing Q2 Deliveries Rise, but Lag 2015's Record Pace

courtesy of Boeing Co.

Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) announced on Thursday that it had delivered a total of 199 commercial jets in the second quarter of 2016, essentially flat compared with 197 deliveries in the same period last year. This year’s total includes 127 737s, 28 777s and 38 787 Dreamliners.

For the first half of the year, Boeing has delivered 375 commercial aircraft, six fewer than the company delivered in the first half of last year. Boeing delivered 128 737s in the second quarter of last year, 26 777s and 34 787s. Boeing delivered a total of 762 commercial planes in 2015.

Second-quarter deliveries also include two 747s and four 767s compared with last year’s totals of five 747s and four 767s.

This year’s second-quarter 737 deliveries are slightly above the nominal production rate of 42 per month, while 787 production has improved to its target nominal rate of 12 per month that was to be reached by the end of this year. Boeing has announced a 737 production increase to 47 next year, a further increase to 52 per month in 2018 and a jump to 57 planes per month in 2019.

Of the 787s delivered during the second quarter, 28 were the more expensive 787-9. The All Things 787 blog notes that Boeing is scheduled to deliver the 30th and final 787-8 to Qatar Airways next week, right in the middle of the Farnborough Airshow, and that could indicate that the airline plans to exercise its option for another 30 787s. That would be some good news for Boeing indeed.

All Things 787 also noted that during June Boeing set a record for fastest final assembly time for a 787: 57 days.

Boeing has still not released its 2016 price list. Rival Airbus issued its 2016 price list in January.
