There are many traditional events to watch, but by now the market participants and investors have learned that they have to pay close attention to many other things than just the earnings headlines. A rally of just under 400 points on the DJIA (NYSEMKT: DIA) and a 48 point rally in the S&P 500 Index (NYSEMKT: SPY) combined will keep traders and investors more than just interested in the developments of the coming week.

PIIGS on Alert!

Greece’s Troika oversight (or overlords) are reportedly 90% of the way to getting another 11.5 billion or so in budget cuts from the Greeks ahead of a key debt payment in August. Do not forget about Spain, Portugal and Italy because whatever happens in Greece means that the rest of the PIIGS are next.

The Big Brother of Europe

A fresh poll shows more and more Germans believe that Germany would be better off by leaving the euro. What happens to the step-children in a divorce? They tend to get left in the shadows. If this feeling grows more and more, the weaker links in Europe will be up an unnamed creek without a paddle.

Ben Bernanke & QE3 or QEWTF

The FOMC is set to start a 2-day Fed meeting on Tuesday, July 31 which will let the markets know if the FOMC is really going to provide more stimulus measures or not. Rates are at nearly zero and Operation Twist has been extended. While the markets rose on Draghi’s comments, the markets want more stimulus. Does Bernanke agree with the White House on stronger GDP in the second half?

European Rate Cuts? Finally? Duh!

Mario Draghi single-handedly rescued the equity markets on Thursday and Friday. First was the “we will do whatever it takes (within our mandate) to keep the Euro together” on Thursday and then it was the planned meeting between the ECB and the Bundesbank that rekindled another rally after preliminary second-quarter U.S. GDP was not as low as economists expected. On Thursday, August 2, at roughly 6:45 AM EST, the markets will find out if the ECB is lowering interest rates. Honestly, can you really expect the ECB at this point to that it is worried about inflation?

LIBOR Scandal Widening

If one bank is in the center of a storm over LIBOR rate-fixing and manipulation, it is Barclays PLC (NYSE: BCS). The problem is that it takes more than one firm to collude. Doesn’t it? The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (NYSE: RBS) and UBS AG (NYSE: UBS) are the most recently reported to be included in the scandal. This is still a long work in progress.

The Big Jobs Data

U.S. Unemployment and Non-Farm Payrolls is expected to hit Friday morning at 8:30 sharp. While the market will have had previews from ADP, Challenger, Weekly Claims, Help Wanted data, ISM data and more, the payrolls creation is going to be a key metric. Just keep in mind that when Ben Bernanke and friends make their decision on the interest rates (actually on stimulus measures) ahead of the report they may already have good idea of what the payrolls situation is set to look like. Bloomberg is calling for a mere 100,000 jobs created and for unemployment to remain flat at 8.2%.

Social Media: Death, Defense, & Defiance!

It seems impossible to think that Zynga, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZNGA) could be more watched and more important than Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ: FB), but Zynga’s low share price and its implosion to new lows was actually much worse than the blowup in Facebook shares after its earnings. Andrew Bary actually defended Zynga, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZNGA) over the weekend in Barron’s noting that the implosion has left the company attractive. While we cannot stand this company’s business model, Barron’s wrote a story called “Beaten-Down Zynga Is Worth a Look” in the weekend publication. Keep in mind that the prior Friday’s close of $4.80 was a loss of 36% for the whole week while Facebook shares fell by “only” 19% for the week. As a reminder, Put Options volume was strong down to the $19 strike price on Friday.

U.S. Auto Sales

On Wednesday, July 1, Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F), General Motors Company (NYSE: GM) and all of the other car manufacturers are set to release their July auto sales data. If these figures are going to positive it would be close to a 180-degree turn since the car companies have been guiding down numbers for 2012. Bloomberg had a consensus of about 11 million annualized domestic sales. If there is upside surprise in North American auto sales, that would be even more good news for SIRIUS XM Radio Inc. (NASDAQ: SIRI).

The Olympics… All Week Long

While we did not use the Lexmark International (NYSE: LXK) major shortfall nor the warning from Infosys Ltd. (NASDAQ: INFY) in the report, we just highlighted a dozen or so recent key technology earnings and sales warnings from major component makers. It seems impossible to think that one day of great bank earnings can allow the technology sector to escape unscathed. The calendar is also working against technology as this is the summer. Still, the market trading is telling us that there have to be at least some tech outfits that may not fall victim of the global slowdown.

Read Also: Major Waves of Technology Earnings Warning

24/7 Wall St. has highlighted earnings previews and added color on the following major technology earnings reports: Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC); eBay Inc. Earnings season is starting this week and it is the tough summer trends that investors have to worry about. While many businesses have held up fine as China and BRIC nations’ growth are slowing and as Europe has been in meltdown mode, the concern is what happens this summer. Some companies have been lowering their earnings and sales expectations, while others are still maintaining that their business is holding up well.

24/7 Wall St. is looking at the few key earnings that investors need to watch this week. Estimates and consensus targets are from Thomson Reuters and performance and valuation commentary is using data from Finviz. When you remember the term “Sell in May and go away!” this may perhaps be the most important earnings season of 2012.

Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA) is the first DJIA component to report earnings after the close on Monday. Some investors believe that “As goes Alcoa, as goes earnings season!” Thomson Reuters has a consensus target of $0.06 EPS versus $0.32 EPS a year ago; revenues are expected to be down almost 12% to $5.81 billion. Alcoa shares are trading down 0.7% at $8.66 the morning ahead of earnings and the 52-week range is $8.21 to $16.16. Yep, shares are down almost in half from the highs of the last year. The consensus price target is $11.27 for this stock. Alcoa is actually barely positive so far in 2012 but it is down over 9% the last quarter.

As far as how the earnings season will perform for stocks, here is what the S&P 500 chart is telling you.

On Wednesday we get ADTRAN Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN) as the first of the networking equipment solutions providers in technology. the $1.8 billion market cap would be too small to matter much on its own, but investors try to key off the company’s stance from time to time. Earnings estimates are $0.35 EPS versus 0.56 EPS a year ago; revenues are expected to be up 3.3% to $190.3 million. ADTRAN shares are down over 5% so far in 2012 and down about 2.6% over the last quarter. At $27.99 the 52-week range is $25.46 to $42.04. The consensus analyst price target is up at $33.50 here.

Marriott International Inc (NYSE: MAR) reports on Wednesday and if one company can reflect the entire travel sector it is Marriott with a $12.9 billion market value. At $39.15, it has a 52-week range of $25.49 to $40.45. Analysts have a price target of about $42.15 on the stock. Estimates are $0.42 EPS versus $0.37 EPS a year ago; revenue estimates are expecting a drop of more than 4% to $2.84 billion. Marriott shares are holding up rather well with a gain of 35% so far in 2012 and a gain of almost 5% over the last quarter.

NovaGold Resources Inc. (NYSE: NG) reports on Thursday. This is only worth about $1.6 billion in market value but this Canadian outfit is the first of the gold exploration and development companies to report earnings. Unfortunately it is too thinly covered to provide any estimates on as a true ‘consensus’ reading. At $5.70, its 52-week range is $4.98 to $11.77. This gold company is down over 32% so far this year and is down 16% over the last quarter.

On Friday, investors may want to pay attention to key bank earnings if they are superstitious. This Friday is Friday the 13th and we have the two key banks of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) and Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) reporting earnings in the morning hours. This earnings season is going to show why there was a change in The Safest Banks In America.

J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) is effectively a total wild card now. It trades below its book value again due to the multi-billion trading losses from The London Whale. Estimates are $0.79 EPS versus $1.27 EPS a year ago and revenues are expected to be down 20% to $21.91 billion. Jamie Dimon’s share performance is actually still up over 4% so far in 2012 but shares are down about 22% over the last quarter due to the huge trading losses under The London Whale. At $33.75, the 52-week range is $27.85 to $46.49. Analysts still have a price target of about $45.50 on this key bank. We would caution that shares were at $40.40 in mid-May before the multi-billion loss confession was issued and shares dropped to $36.65 the day after that news. Some reports show that the loss might go as high as $9 billion, but others are more in the $4 billion to $6 billion range.

Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) is expected to report earnings growth of about 15% to $0.81 EPS on revenue growth of about 4.6% to $21.3 billion. The premium is due to this outfit not having as much trading exposure under Dodd-Frank and also because it is mostly considered a North American play more than any of the other major money-center banks. Wells Fargo shares are up about 21% year to date and are down only about 1% or so over the last quarter. At $33.25, its 52-week range is $22.58 to $34.59 and this bank trades at a premium to its book value. Analysts have a consensus price target of almost $38.00 on this key bank.

Some of the other giants are not yet scheduled which we used to routinely see leading off the flow of earnings each quarter. Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) is not yet on the books, and General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) will report earnings next week.

We have shown earnings previews for the week ahead for the following companies: Adobe Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE); FedEx Corporation (NYSE: FDX); Jabil Circuit Inc. (NYSE: JBL); Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBY); Goodrich Corp. (NYSE: GR); Red Hat Inc. (NYSE: RHT); Carmax Inc. (NYSE: KMX); ConAgra Foods Inc. (NYSE: CAG); Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCL); and Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD).

We have shown consensus earnings estimates from Thomson Reuters, shown some recent share price performance, and added color if applicable.

Tuesday, June 19

Adobe Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE) is expected to report earnings of $0.59 EPS and $1.11 billion in revenues. This stock has sort of become stuck and the $32.10 price is still between support and resistance. Each closing peak has been at a lower close on a much longer-term basis, but there is decent support just above $30.00. The 52-week range is $22.67 to $34.78 and the market value is almost $16 billion as of now. Perhaps the non-Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) woes of the still-persistent Flash fight over HTML5 is where Adobe plans to find its next wave of growth.

FedEx Corporation (NYSE: FDX) is expected to report $1.92 EPS on $11.12 billion in sales. A recent charges announced from a fleet retirement overshadowed its dividend hike. The $86.84 share price compares to a 52-week range of $64.07 to $98.66.

Jabil Circuit Inc. (NYSE: JBL) has estimates of $0.64 EPS and $4.29 billion in revenue. With shares trading just under $19.00 its 52-week range is $13.94 to $27.40. We would be paying close attention to other electronic manufacturing services outfits on this report.

Wednesday, June 20

Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBY) has been an amazing growth story and we still have some non-earnings expectations. With shares up around $73.00 and with a 52-week range of $48.75 to $74.67, this stock is effectively at all-time highs and with a market value of almost $17 billion. Will it split shares with earnings, or will finally pay out the dividend that shareholders deserve here? This retail giant is expected to report earnings of $0.84 EPS and $2.25 billion in revenues.

Goodrich Corp. (NYSE: GR) needs to be watched now that many airlines have supposedly tightened in their spending plans. Ditto for the defense contracting. The reason we bring these up is because Goodrich shares appear to have hit an all-time high of $126.85 on Friday at a time when some expect some slowing industry trends. The market value is about $16 billion now. This company has earnings estimates of $1.71 EPS and $2.22 billion in revenue.

Red Hat Inc. (NYSE: RHT) still trades with a high market multiple premium on earnings, mostly due to its virtualization and integration of Linux with other key network and datacenter issues. The market value is now $10.65 billion with shares at $55.40 and the 52-week range is $31.77 to $62.75. Red Hat has estimates of $0.27 EPS and $310.84 million in revenue. As a reminder, Red Hat can be very volatile around earnings and it trades at about 46-times this year’s expected earnings.

Thursday, June 21

Carmax Inc. (NYSE: KMX) is expected to report earnings of $0.54 EPS and sales of $2.84 billion. With the focus moving to so many new cars of late, this stock is well off of its highs now. At $27.60, the 52-week range is $22.77 to $35.17 and the market cap is $6.25 billion.

ConAgra Foods Inc. (NYSE: CAG) is a defensive food giant worth $10.3 billion in market cap. The stock has not has pulled back from its highs but it still offers a rather high dividend yield of about 3.9%. Earnings estimates here are $0.50 EPS and $3.39 billion in revenue.

Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCL) is expected to report earnings of $0.78 EPS and $10.89 billion in revenues. Oracle has been stuck as a stock and May turned out to be exceptionally hard on the company. The December earnings tank was one of its worst reports and Larry Ellison and crew just have not regained the trust of investors yet. At $27.55, Oracle’s 52-week trading range is $24.72 to $34.13. The market value is $137 billion and investors continue to worry about the Sun business even if it trades at barely 11-times earnings.

Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) was recently addressed as a takeover target with 61% upside in a research report, but the company keeps losing money and is expected to keep losing money ahead. In short, it is a turnaround which just never really can turn around. Earnings estimates are -$0.03 EPS on $6.44 billion in revenue. Its $1.1 billion market cap is very misleading over the enterprise value due to a large debt load. The share price of $1.22 compares to a 52-week trading range of $0.85 to $2.12.

As a reminder, some of these estimates may change ahead of the actual earnings reports and some estimates may have already changed.

This last week’s top analyst upgrades, downgrades and initiations were in the following companies: BroadSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: BSFT); Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ: FB); Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD); SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK); SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE: STI); Veolia Environnement SA (NYSE: VE); and Vera Bradley, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRA). We have compiled a summary and color on each with links to more detail if applicable.

BroadSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: BSFT) has been winning industry accolades of late, but its stock has gone nowhere with the unified communications technology. Mizuho maintained its BUY rating on Friday but lowered the target to $35 from $54 on the stock. Shares were down over 5% at $27.60 in the final minutes of Friday’s session after what looked like a recovery in its chart.

Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) received a bit of a strange upgrade from S&P Capital IQ this week, only to HOLD from SELL. JMP Securities also start coverage with an OUTPERFORM rating. This is all after one analyst predicted that Facebook would be dead in just five years. We ran our own analysis on Friday and this one looks like Facebook shares are finally wanting to bottom out after being down 30% from the IPO pricing. FULL REVIEW

Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) hardly budged on Friday and the stock was down almost 2% at $1.22 in the late session on Friday. The movement is not unusual at all, but the upside and takeout talk was… Credit Suisse reiterated its OUTPERFORM rating and its $2.00 target, but more importantly it chatted up Rite Aid’s long-term buyout prospects from the likes of a Walgreen Co. (NYSE: WAG). FULL DETAILS

SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) was initiated by Pacific Crest with an OUTPERFORM rating and it set a $47.00 price target. While the upside to the price target was nearly 50%, the report actually claims that SanDisk trades at a 70% discount to its asset value. SanDisk was up well over 5% on the call when covered it around $33.25 but the stock continued to rise throughout the week to close out at $35.43 for continued strength here after this call. FULL SUMMARY

SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE: STI) is effectively all tied to the United States. Many investors hate all banks right now and analysts have been negative on the long-term prospects of most money-center banks and larger regional banks. So when this was raised to BUY from HOLD on Friday at Argus with a $30 price target the 30% or so upside sure stood out. Earlier in the week we saw that Evercore raised its rating to OVERWEIGHT with a $27 price target.

Veolia Environnement SA (NYSE: VE) has been a battered water and environmental player for longer than its shareholders would like to consider. It is also French, so many US investors do not follow it even though it is key to many water portfolios for investors. Less than 5-years ago this ADR traded at $90 and now it trades at $12.44 as its turnaround has been very slow and as a new management team tries to implement a leaner more focused plan. Barclays on Friday started shares with an OVERWEIGHT rating and its translated upside is close to 20%. If Barclays is right here (only 2 upgrades recently, in April), then more analysts will start to upgrade this one and the upside would likely be far higher.

Vera Bradley, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRA) has been battered after having had a great post-IPO run. Many analysts got out of the way on this one and CNBC’s Herb Greenberg has been pointing out many of the ongoing issues here for quite some time. But on Wednesday came a report from KeyBanc, which raised the rating to BUY from HOLD and gave a $26 price target. SHares closed at $20.20 the night before that early call and the stock closed the week out at $22.81 for more than a 10% gainer on the call.

MONDAY, MAY 21

Tech Data Corporation (NASDAQ: TECD) is set to report and show how the outlook is for the companies which actually distribute all of the technology components and finished smartphones and consumer electronics devices around the world. Shares were recently under $48 and the 52-week range is $38.21 to $59.29. The consensus estimate is $1.16 EPS and $6.18 billion in revenue.

Urban Outfitters Inc. (NASDAQ: URBN) is going to show if its turnaround is closer or just still chugging along. Estimates are $0.20 EPS and $579.2 million in revenue. Shares were recently around $25.50 and the 52-week range is $21.47 to $33.90; the consensus target price is about $29.70.

TUESDAY, MAY 22

Autozone Inc. (NYSE: AZO) took it hard on the chin recently when rival Advance Auto warned of a difficult second quarter. This is one of the high-priced stocks and shares are around $366 against a 52-week range of $266.25 to $399.10. The consensus analyst target price is $419.80; estimates are $6.25 EPS and $2.13 billion in revenue; next quarter estimates are $8.47 EPS and $2.84 billion in revenue.

Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE: BBY) is in such disarray that we won’t even bother with the warnings and the caveats here. Estimates are $0.60 EPS.

Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL) is now trading at only about 7.5-times forward earnings. Estimates are $0.46 EPS and $14.89 billion in sales. Earnings have been choppy on guidance but the PC makers and components makers are all talking up the release of Windows 8 as a new catalyst. With shares trading just under $15.00, the 52-week range is $13.29 to $18.36 and the consensus price target is almost $19.50.

PetSmart Inc. (NASDAQ: PETM) has been a steady “beat earnings and raise guidance” outfit as Americans will pay endless and countless dollars on Fido and Fifi. Estimates are $0.73 EPS and $1.6 billion in revenue. With shares around $56.00, the 52-week high is $59.36.

Ralph Lauren Corporation (NYSE: RL) has sold off nearly $40 from its highs since March. The question is how its business has been holding up in slowing markets even if the U.S. sales have been strong. Estimates are $0.83 EPS and $1.6 billion in sales. With shares around $143 the 52-week range is $105.00 to $182.48 and the consensus price target from analysts is just over $190.00.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 23

Big Lots Inc. (NYSE: BIG) should be called “Warning Lots” because it has lowered guidance and been hard on two different waves. With shares under $35 and against a high of $47.22, the premium values of the dollar stores may and discounters may be hurting here. On the flip side, the bar has been set extremely low. Estimates are $0.69 EPS and $1.3 billion in revenue.

Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ) is now around the $22 handle and the news of another 25,000 or more in layoffs (versus 350K as of October 31, 2011) is not helping the growth hopes. Estimates are $0.91 EPS and $29.92 billion in sales. The stock now trades at about 6-times earnings, but the consensus price target is down to just over $29.00 as no one wants to pay up for the valuation of this DJIA component.

NetApp Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) has been pounded and the last 45 days has looked like a downward staircase on its chart. At about $34.00, the 52-week range is $33.00 to $56.49 and the consensus price target objective is just over $47.00.

Pandora Media Inc. (NYSE: P) is no longer market-influencing, but it is a cult stock and the earnings could create a large gain or a large drop. With shares under $10.50, the post IPO range is $7.83 to $26.00. Estimates are -$0.17 EPS and $74.3 million in revenue. Can the company make it to profitability by the end of next year?

Toll Brothers Inc. (NYSE: TOL) is expected to be profitable. A profitable homebuilder! At $25.50, the 52-week range is $13.16 to $27.80. A lot of good news already has to be priced in, so we would want to expect upside to remain positive here. Estimates are $0.04 EPS and $381.9 million in revenue.

THURSDAY, MAY 24

Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ: COST) almost always beats its earnings estimates. At $83.75 the 52-week range is $70.22 to $92.10; analysts have a target price of $86.80 or so. Estimates are $0.87 EPS and $22.1 billion in revenue.

Tiffany & Co. (NYSE: TIF) has come off of its highs significantly and this is the king of jewelry stores for investors. There will have been two smaller reports ahead of Tiffany in the week with Fred’s and Zale. Estimates for Tiffany are $0.69 EPS and $816.8 million. With shares under $61.00, the 52-week range is $56.21 to $84.49 and the consensus price target is $75.63.

VeriFone Systems Inc. (NYSE: PAY) has pulled back by about 20% from its highs, but the woes of the company seem to be behind it. At $44.80, the 52-week range is $30.25 to $55.89 and the consensus analyst price target is $54.10. Estimates are $0.61 EPS and $471.5 million in revenue.

As a reminder, dates and estimates can change ahead of earnings and some may have already changed.

The top earnings we are looking at are as follows: Dendreon Corporation (NASDAQ: DNDN); Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA); Rackspace Hosting Inc. (NYSE: RAX); The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS); Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO); Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M); Priceline.com Incorporated (NASDAQ: PCLN); and Nuance Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN).

We have taken estimates and price targets from Thomson Reuters consensus estimates and have added in color on each.

The shape of the biotech sector is likely to hinge based on the earnings of Dendreon Corporation (NASDAQ: DNDN). VIVUS Inc. (NASDAQ: VVUS) also reports on Monday but Dendreon has many things that biotech investors want: a product on the market, a controversial story, a stock way off its post-approval highs, a history of soft sales with the promise of better times ahead, and a rather large short interest. This is a sales story rather than an earnings story: Thomson Reuters expects sales of $81.2 million for the last quarter, $90.1 million for the quarter ahead (the quarter we are in now, and $378.3 million in 2012. These sales are all from Provenge for late-stage prostate cancer. This is the one that will set the tone for biotech during the week and this stock is back down closer to $11 after having popped to $15 from $8 earlier this year.

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) is no longer the leading game company for investors, but it is one of the largest game makers in the world. Its earnings are also ahead of the larger video game giant Activision Blizzard Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI) which reports later in the week. This is also considered one of the throw-away quarters of the video game sector. Thomson Reuters expects E.A. to report $0.17 EPS on $959.56 million in sales, with next quarter expected to be -$0.32 EPS on $580.9 million in sales. This will mark the year-end report and the growth in the year ahead is expected to go to $1.13 EPS from $0.84 EPS expected and sales are expected to grow to $4.5 billion from $4.17 billion expected.

(NYSE: ABB); Allison Transmission Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: ALSN); Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN); Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL); CafePress Inc. (NASDAQ: PRSS); Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE: CMG); Demandware, Inc. (NYSE: DWRE); Hess Corporation (NYSE: HES); Infosys Ltd. (NASDAQ: INFY); McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE: MCD); SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK); Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT); Zynga, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZNGA); Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ: STX); Western Digital Corporation (NYSE: WDC); Banco Santander (NYSE: STD); and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A. (NYSE: BBVA).

We have outlined a summary of each call and added in color on each to show why (and if) the analysts made calls worth watching.

ABB Ltd. (NYSE: ABB) is about to see a drop due to its ex-dividend date and we saw two simultaneous downgrades after an acquisition strategy was outlined this last week. On Thursday ABB shares were downgraded to Neutral at JPMorgan and they were also removed from he coveted Conviction Buy List but maintained as a ‘Buy’ over at Goldman Sachs. This one lost about 5% from earlier in the week by the time Friday’s close came around.

Allison Transmission Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: ALSN) saw its quiet period end on Tuesday. Shares recovered on Friday due to stronger numbers elsewhere but the stock had been weak after the coverage started. We saw the following initiations: Started as Outperform at Baird; Started as Neutral at Citigroup; Started as Neutral at Credit Suisse; Started as Neutral at Goldman Sachs; Started as Neutral at J.P. Morgan; and Started as Hold at KeyBanc Capital Markets.

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) was a Johnny Come-Lately call where several analysts decided all at once that they had to upgrade the online retail giant after it blew out its earnings: Raised to Buy at BofA/ML; Raised to Buy at Goldman Sachs; Raised to Buy at Nomura; Raised to Buy at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) blew the door off the hinges this last week with earnings. While it was already rated and effective buy rating, the new street-high official target is $1,111 and that will make it the first company worth more than $1 trillion by market cap if it comes true. This newest street-high call came from Topeka Capital Markets’ Brian White this last Wednesday.

CafePress Inc. (NASDAQ: PRSS) saw its quiet period end this last week and these are the calls we saw for analyst initiations: Started as Buy at Janney; Started as Outperform at Raymond James; and Started as Overweight at J.P. Morgan. The initiations being positive did not help the shares.

The key dividend hikes were many, but we saw a serious move from Dow Jones Industrial Average components hiking their payouts.

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) is playing catch-up to other DJIA healthcare players and the new yield is closer to 3.8%. Call this the 50th consecutive year of dividend hikes.

Wednesday was a very different day in Big Oil. Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE: XOM) went ahead and raised its dividend to catch its yield up to Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX). Something strange happened along the way: Chevron went ahead and raised its dividend much sooner than expected… and on the same day! FULL STORY

The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE: KO) tried something new, or old. It went back to the 1990s by announcing a stock split for the first time in well over a decade.

International Business Machines Corporation (NYSE: IBM) lifted its payout by 13% and showed why it may still rise to $230 over the next year.

From the Department of It’s About Time… The NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NDAQ) finally decided to do the right thing by initiating its first-ever dividend.

Investors rely heavily on utilities now for the high dividend yields of 5% or so. In fact, utility stocks are the new CDs for safe income investors. We saw two very different takes on the outlook for utilities and their dividends ahead. This one hits American Electric Power Co., Inc. (NYSE: AEP) and several other key utilities.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
