Red Sox vs. Yankees Leads List of Most Expensive MLB Games Before All-Star Break

The end of June is near and that means the All-Star break is fast approaching. This year the All-Star game is being held at Target Field in Minneapolis on July 15, but there are still plenty of marquee games before then. Below is a list of the top ten games in terms of average price on the secondary market before the All-Star game as compiled by TiqIQ.

1) 6/27 BOS vs. NYY | Avg. Price: $181.67 | Get-in Price: $50

Arguably the greatest rivalry in sports finds itself at the top of this list. Neither team has lit the league on fire this year, and the Boston Red Sox are even well below .500. But both teams rank at the top of the league when it comes to average price, so it’s no surprise that Yankees tickets are averaging $181.67 for the game. The get-in price of $50 is also the highest on this list and one of the highest figures on the Yankees schedule.

2) 7/5 BAL vs. BOS | Avg. Price: $135.58 | Get-in Price: $37

Tickets to Yankee Stadium are certainly expensive, but Fenway Park isn’t far behind. Home games on the Red Sox schedule makes up the next two games on the list, and three of the ten spots overall. Red Sox tickets are averaging $135.58 for their game against the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles have taken advantage of the weak division this year, to stake a claim to second place with a 40-36 record. The get-in price for the game is $37.

3) 7/10 CHW vs. BOS | Avg. Price: $133.04 | Get-in Price: $28

The third game on the list actually pits two of the worst teams in the league against each other. The Chicago White Sox are last in the AL Central with a 36-42 record, but this is the last game at Fenway Park before the All-Star break. Tickets are averaging $133.04 for the game with a get-in price of $28.

4) 6/29 CIN vs. SFG | Avg. Price: $126.69 | Get-in Price: $18

We’re finally out of the American League with the fourth game on the list. The San Francisco Giants have been the most expensive ticket in the National League so far this year, and the only team to exceed $100 for average ticket price. The Cincinnati Reds just missed out on a wild card spot last year, and at 38-38 are just hovering outside a spot again this season. San Francisco Giants tickets are averaging $126.69 for the game with a get-in price of $18.

5) 7/7 SFG vs. OAK | Avg. Price: $122.39 | Get-in Price: $45

A’s tickets aren’t usually on the expensive side, but with the Bay Area rival Giants on the Oakland Athletics schedule, the average price of the game tops $100. The A’s have been the best team in baseball so far this season both offensively and with pitching. A’s tickets are averaging $122.39 for the game with a $45 get-in price.

6) 6/30 CHC vs. BOS | Avg. Price: $120.62 | Get-in Price: $33

The Red Sox make the list for one final time with an average price of $120.62 and a get-in price of $33. This time it is an interleague game at Fenway with the hapless Chicago Cubs visiting. Despite their 32-43 record, the Cubs remain a big draw in baseball because of their loyal fan base and longstanding history.

7) 7/4 LAD vs. COL | Avg. Price: $113.06 | Get-in Price: $34

This game is a tale of two teams heading in different directions. After a strong start to the season the Colorado Rockies have cooled off big time. Over the last ten games on the Rockies schedule they’ve won only three, and that’s been the trend over the last month of the season. Meanwhile the Los Angeles Dodgers are just three games behind the Giants after a surge of their own. They won seven of their last ten games Rockies tickets are averaging $113.06 for the game with a get-in price of $34.

8) 7/7 NYY vs. CLE | Avg. Price: $107.87 | Get-in Price: $27

The only game on the Cleveland Indians schedule to top $100 before the All-Star break fittingly features the Yankees. The Indians surprised everyone with a wild card berth last season, but so far they don’t have the same magic. They have just a 37-40 record, which puts them closer to last than first in the AL Central. Indians tickets are averaging $107.87 for the game and have a get-in price of $27.

9) 7/1 TB vs. NYY | Avg. Price: $102.75 | Get-in Price: $11

This wasn’t how things were supposed to go for the Tampa Bay Rays. 80 games into the Rays schedule and they sit at 32-48 for the worst record in all of baseball. Injuries have been a main culprit, but even in this down year they are a decent draw for the Yankee Stadium crows. Yankees vs. Rays tickets are averaging $102.75 for the Tuesday game, the last game on to top $100 before the All-Star break. The $11 get-in price is the lowest figure on this list.

10) 7/10 OAK vs. SFG | Avg. Price: $96.71 | Get-in Price: $32

The Bay Area rivals make it on the list one more time with the A’s on the SF Giants schedule. It’s a Thursday afternoon game at AT&T Park, and both teams will be looking to have a strong first half close. Only one series remains after before the break. Tickets for the game are the only ones on the list below a $100 average at $96.71, and a get-in price of $32.
