NRA Near Conclusion to Raffle of Jeep Wrangler

courtesy of FCA US LLC

The National Rifle Association (NRA) is about to end its promotion to raffle off a Jeep Wrangler, which appears to be a way to entice new members. The truck is not even new, in terms of model year, but a four-wheel drive ultra-rugged 2015 Jeep Wrangler customized by someone called Jesse James. No matter, the NRA wants new members, and an old truck may do the trick.

A raffle is a clever way to add people as paying members of most organizations, as any business school marketing professor would say. People do not have to join the organization that holds the raffle, because that is against the law, but that does not mean it cannot be used as a way to market memberships.

The NRA offer reads:

Suggested donation is ONLY $10 per entry. However, no contribution is required for entry. A contribution will not improve your chances of winning.

But your contribution will definitely improve your chances of holding onto your FREEDOM in this year’s winner-take-all election battle—helping NRA to tell the truth about anti-gun politicians that you won’t hear from the media.

The NRA Truck Raffle Sweepstakes is another fun way for freedom-loving NRA members like you to get more involved in winning this fight.

The Jeep is just a part of the reward for the winner:

And if you’re our LUCKY WINNER, we’ll also give you 2 HOT NEW CUSTOM-MADE GUNS plus $20,000 in CASH!!!

The promotion does two things for the NRA. It raises money during a time when it is faced with a fight against candidates it says do not support Second Amendment rights. And it encourages current members to renew, a means to get money now, which might not come in until these members reach the end of their current memberships. In other words, it moves the cash from their renewals forward by months or years and glues these people to the NRA membership for longer than would be the case if they decided not to renew in the normal cycle.

According to a letter signed by Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President, National Rifle Association of America, its most visible spokesman, the raffle ends on September 15 at 11:59 p.m. Barely more than a month away.
