For the week ended Friday, January 20, 2017, the spot price index for a pound of cannabis increased by 1.7% from $1,568 in the prior week to $1,595. According to the analysts at Cannabis Benchmarks, the simple average price for a gram increased from $3.82 to $3.95.

The futures price for the near month (February) remained unchanged at $1,625. For the month of March, the forward price also remained unchanged at $1,650. The six-month forward price (July) was also unchanged at $1,650 a pound.

About two-thirds of the past week’s transactions occurred in a range of $1,187 to $2,394 per pound.

This week the analysts commented on the widening wholesale price difference between medical and recreational marijuana:

Pricing for wholesale cannabis flower in medical markets diverged sharply from that sold in adult-use ones this week, with the former rising by just under 9% to the latter’s 3% decrease. The premium commanded by product designated as medical almost doubled week-over-week, to just under $400 from $208 last week. This despite a significant drop in overall pricing in California, the nation’s largest medical cannabis market by far, though the sizeable medical programs of Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico all saw week-over-week price rises. Falling rates in the adult-use markets of Oregon and Washington were tempered somewhat by increased composite pricing in Colorado.

Indoor flower prices ranged from $893 to $3,400 per pound, while the median price was $1,475. Greenhouse flower prices ranged from $1,100 to $3,000 per pound, and the median price was $1,475. Outdoor flower prices ranged from $500 to $1,600 per pound; the median price was $1,100.
