Mansion Offered for $4.3 Million in Beaten-Down Jackson Michigan

August 27, 2016 by Douglas A. McIntyre

Just over $4 million buys a lot of house in Jackson, Michigan. Jackson is one of the beaten-down cities near to beaten-down Detroit. The $4.3 million mansion is at 9145 Olcott Lake Drive.

The house is wildly expensive for the area. The median household income in Jackson is $31,924, according to the 2000 Census. That is about $20,000 below the national average. At that time, 19.6% of the people in Jackson lived below the poverty line. Jackson has been bleeding residents. It had 50,720 in 1960 and was estimated to have 33,133 last year.

9145 Olcott Lake Drive is located southeast of Jackson. It has a few things to recommend it. The house is on a lake. It has four bedrooms, five bathrooms, one half-bath and 12,056 square feet, which likely makes it one of the largest homes in southern Michigan. It sits on 11.01 acres.

Realtor.com described some of the benefits:

Due west of Detroit, this luxurious lakefront home about an hour and a half outside the Motor City would make a fabulous getaway for an auto exec. It sits on 11 acres and offers over 12,000 square feet of living space, but the mansion’s true luxury lies in its three laundry rooms.

Rich auto executives are likely to live somewhere other than Jackson — say, Bloomfield Hills or Grosse Point.

The tremendously long listing is not likely to help find a buyer:
