SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ: SPWR) may be getting a boost as far as client names, if one contract can matter even if that one contract is from the greatest company around today. The Mercury News of San Jose, California has reported today that SunPower will be providing solar panels for the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) massive new data center in Maiden, North Carolina.
Today’s report shows “Apple said the data center would be run with a high percentage of renewable energy, leading to rampant speculation in the clean tech industry about who its technology partners are.” The Mercury News further reported that an 18-page filing with the North Carolina Utilities Commission “makes it clear that SunPower has been chosen to provide the solar panels for the massive solar farm.”
The data center is said to be 100 acres and will be a 20 Megawatt facility supplying 42 million kw-hours of clean and renewable energy.
SunPower shares closed down 3.6% at $6.83 on Tuesday and its 52-week trading range is $4.94 to $23.36.
