September 9, 2014: Among the 73 stocks making new 52-week lows today were the following companies:

Peabody Coal Co. (NYSE: BTU) dropped about 2.4% on Tuesday to a new 52-week low of $14.52. Share volume is about 30% below the daily average of around 6.2 million. The stock’s 52-week high is $21.28. Coal gets little love these day, and a buyer of one of the company’s Australian mines stopped making payments more than a week ago. The mine was closed in December.

Comverse Inc. (NASDAQ: CNSI) dropped more than 9% today to post a new 52-week low of $21.02 compared with the stock’s 52-week high of $40.30. The company announced second quarter results today that failed to meet expectations. Trading volume was about 6-times the daily average of around 160,000 shares.

Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE: HLF) dropped more than 5% today to post a new 52-week low of $46.24. Share volume was about 50% higher than the average daily volume of around 2.5 million shares and the 52-week high is $83.51. There was no news on the company today.

Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. (NASDAQ: SWHC) dropped about 2.1% today to post a new 52-week low of $10.16. Volume is nearly about equal to the daily average of around 1.6 million shares. The gun maker had no news today, but it’s been a tough year so far. Shares have dropped 24% since January. The stock’s 52-week high is $7.43.
