June 11, 2015: Here are four stocks among the 48 equities making new 52-week lows today.

Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK) dropped about 4.7% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $12.45 after closing at $13.06 on Wednesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $29.92. Share volume exceeded 33 million, more than a 50% higher than the daily average of around 22 million shares traded. The company’s stock was downgraded from Outperform to Perform and its price target was set at $22 by Oppenheimer today .

Peabody Energy Corp. (NYSE: BTU) posted a new 52-week low on Thursday. Shares dropped about 13% to $2.79 from Wednesday’s closing price of $3.21. The stock’s 52-week high is $17.21 Volume totaled about 23 million shares, approaching double the daily average of around 13.5 million shares. The coal company cut 250 jobs yesterday, but it is not likely to be enough to stop the bloodbath in coal mining stocks.

Yamana Gold Inc. (NYSE: AUY) dropped about 6.7% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $3.19 against a 52-week high of $9.04. The stock closed at $3.42 on Wednesday night. Volume totaled more than 13 million shares, about 60% more than the daily average of around 8 million shares. The company was the hardest hit of the gold mining stocks as gold prices slipped today.

Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA) dropped about 1.2% on Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $12.03 after closing at $12.17 on Wednesday. The stock’s 52-week high is $17.75. Share volume totaled about 11 million shares, about 60% below the daily average of more than 23 million. The company had no specific news today, but this is the fourth consecutive new low for the shares.
