Chesapeake Energy Corp. (NYSE: CHK) dropped about 2.2% on Tuesday to post a new 52-week low at $12.27 after closing at $13.26 on Monday. The stock’s 52-week high is $27.24. Share volume totaled around 18 million, about 20% below the daily average of around 23 million. The company had no news today, but is scheduled to report quarterly results before markets open on Tuesday, and investors are obviously expecting bad news.

Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (NYSE: FCX) dropped about 2.4% on Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $10.93 after closing at $11.20 on Monday. The stock’s 52-week high is $37.53. Share volume totaled around 18 million shares, about 5% below the daily average of around 19 million. The company had no specific news again today.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) posted a new 52-week low on Tuesday. Shares dropped about 9.4% to a low of $29.91 from Monday’s closing price of $31.01. The stock’s 52-week high is $39.89. Volume rose to about seven times the daily average of around 2 million. The company missed revenue and profit expectations when it reported earnings this morning..

Applied Materials Inc. (NASDAQ: AMAT) dropped about 1.9% on Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $16.83 against a 52-week high of $25.71. The stock closed at $17.16 on Monday night. Volume totaled about 15 million shares, about 10% below the daily average of around 17 million shares traded. The company had no specific news today.
