The 52-Week Low Club for Monday

December 28, 2015: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 34 equities making new 52-week lows today.

Chimerix Inc. (NASDAQ: CMRX) dropped about 81% on Monday to post a new 52-week low at $6.63 after closing at $35.57 on Thursday. The stock’s 52-week high is $58.04. Share volume of about 24 million was more than 60 times the daily average of about 370,000 shares traded. The company reported this morning that it had failed to meet the primary endpoint in a phase 3 trial of a stem cell transplantation procedure.

Iconix Brand Group Inc. (NASDAQ: ICON) dropped about 28% on Monday to post a new 52-week low of $5.34 against a 52-week high of $37.29. The stock closed at $7.45 on Thursday night. Volume reached 9.8 million shares, more than 4 times the daily average of around 2.3 million  shares traded. The company said today that it has received a formal order of investigation from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission related to Iconix’s accounting for certain joint ventures.

Barnes & Noble Inc. (NYSE: BKS) slipped 9% on Monday to post a new 52-week low of $8.35 against a high of $19.00. The stock closed at $9.19 on Thursday night. Volume rose to around 1.5 million, about 10% higher than the daily average of around 1.35 million shares traded. The company had no specific news today, but 24/7 Wall Street offered a suggestion to help lift the company out of the doldrums.

Mobile Telesystems PJSC (NYSE: MBT) posted a new low on Monday. Shares dropped about 5.5% to a low of $6.06 from Thursday’s closing price of $6.41. The stock’s 52-week high is $12.79. Volume was about half the daily average of around 2.3 million shares. A Russian telecom provider had no specific news today
