‘Furious 7’ Likely to Be in Top 10 Movies of All Time
April 19, 2015 by Paul AusickAnd “Furious 7” is, perhaps, even more of a success internationally, where it had raked in ticket sales of $735.2 million in its first 17 days of release. The film opened in China last weekend and rang up $68.8 million on its first day, an opening day record for the country, according to Box Office Mojo.
There are no estimates for this weekend’s international ticket sales, but Box Office Mojo has estimated an international total of $1.2 billion and a domestic total of $350 million. Those numbers would vault “Furious 7” to a worldwide total of $1.55 billion and into third place on the all-time list behind only “Avatar” and “Titanic.”
“Furious 7” is nearly a lock to move up this week from its ranking of 19th on the worldwide all-time best-grossing list to pass “Jurassic Park” and move into 15th place, with an estimated total of around $1.035 billion based just on domestic ticket sales. From there the film needs only another $56 million in ticket sales to pass “Transformers: Age of Extinction” to get into the top 10 worldwide. That could happen this week as well, depending on overseas ticket sales.
Fast and furious indeed.
