“The LEGO Batman Movie” has legs. It moved into the top spot as the number one film based on domestic box office sales so far in 2017. Total sales were $151.2 billion as of March 10.

“The LEGO Batman Movie” has moved ahead of horror thriller “Split,” which has taken in $134.6 million, and “Logan,” which has posted sales of $114.8 million. “Logan” likely will pass the other two in time, because it was released more recently, on March 3. LEGO Batman launched on February 9 and “Split” on January 20.

The top 95 movies released so far this year have a combined box office take of $1.13 billion in the United States. That is an average of $12 million. Only four have taken in over $100 million so far. Add “Fifty Shades Darker,” which has brought in $111.2 million, to the top three.

“The LEGO Batman Movie” has been very well reviewed, both by critics and theatergoers. Rotten Tomatoes says 91% of critics gave positive reviews, and 84% of viewers say they liked it.

The movie was released by the Warner Bros. division of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX).
