Tech gifts are expected to be as popular this holiday shopping season as ever, and as is always the case, the electronics that are the most in demand tend to be the most expensive. The product that figures to be the most searched-for, the iPhone X, costs well over $1,000.
Many of this year’s hottest tech gifts, such as the iPhone X, are brand new, and for that reason are still being sold by retailers at a premium. But there are also plenty of tech items that are relatively new and can be purchased on sale — in-store and online — at major retailers like Walmart, Amazon, Target, Sears, Best Buy, and more. These products can be bought at 20% to 30% discount or more, in some cases more than 40%.
Shoppers have their own priorities — some want the most up-to-date items, while price is a priority for others. The good news is that there are deals on major products — while you might be able to find brand new major products on sale, older models might be cheaper and still likely fill a need.

24/7 Wall St. reviewed a number of third-party sources, as well as Amazon.com’s section of items commonly bought as gifts, to identify hundreds of tech gifts projected to be popular this holiday season that cost under $50. Using Google’s Keyword Planner, we identified the search terms that Google projects will be most popular from December 11 through December 25. We then identified the largest discounts for each item offered at a major retailers. Our initial list of retailers are those that have the highest total 2016 U.S. sales according to the National Retail Federation., and excluded major retailers that do not sell electronics.
