Most Decorated Golden Globe Winners of All Time

December 28, 2017 by Cheyenne Buckingham

The much-anticipated Golden Globe Awards ceremony has been held for 75 years, just 14 years shy of the renowned Academy Awards. And over that time, a select few actors have earned a cornucopia of awards.

The 2018 Golden Globes will start the awards season on Jan. 7, 2018 at the Beverly Hills Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association nominated 70 actors – in addition to directors, writers, and composers – from myriad cinema and shows for this year’s awards that highlight the best of the best.

A diverse range of actors with different accolades and acting experiences have been nominated. For example, 22 of the 70 actors have never been nominated, let alone won, a Golden Globe. Others who have been nominated have accumulated a trove of awards for their work over the past several decades.

24/7 Wall St. has identified the most decorated Golden Globe winners of all time.

Many of the most decorated Golden Globe nominees first found success during the “New Hollywood” period, which ranged from the mid-1960s to the early 1980s. Twelve of the actors featured on this list won their first Golden Globe in the 1960s, and seven won their first Golden Globe in the 1970s.

The vast majority of nominees are actors, with the exceptions of director Fred Zinnemann and composer Dimitri Tiomkin. Twelve of the 27 actors are women, including seven of the top 10 most decorated. The Golden Globes grant actor- and actress-specific awards.

To identify the most decorated Golden Globe winners of all time, 24/7 Wall St. listed the individuals who have won the most Golden Globe awards, including special achievement awards that did not require a nomination. The number of nominations; whether an individual was the recipient of a special achievement award; and the length of a given person’s career were used to break ties. All Golden Globe data come from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Information including credits and the work an individual is most known for came from online movie database IMDb.com.
