Applied Materials (AMAT): We Made Money But You’re Fired

bearApplied Materials (NASDAQ:AMAT) can be added to the long list of American companies that made a profit in the last quarter and then fired a significant part of their workforces. It is a disturbing trend that will make it harder for the US economy to recover.

Corel: Strangest Go-Private, M&A, & IPO Story of the Decade (CREL, MSFT, ADBE)

Corel LogoIt has become commonplace to see initial public offerings from earlier private equity holdings that were once public and taken private.  Yet it is very odd to see a company get acquired in a go-private deal to ultimately be followed by a re-IPO and then ultimately see a go-private transaction come its way yet again.  But that is what we are seeing as a possibility, again, in Corel Corporation (NASDAQ: CORL).

How Much Higher Can Omniture Bid Fetch? (OMTR, ADBE, MSFT, GOOG, TWX)

Money Stack ImageOmniture Inc. (NASDAQ: OMTR) seems like another niche ad-tech play that has gone on over the recent years, but it could possibly be much more.  Adobe Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE) gave a $21.50 per share cash tender buyout price valued at some $1.8 billion.   What is interesting is that there is already a thought over whether the company deserves to get a higher price.  The company’s online marketing suite and other operations make it an interesting acquisition for anyone wanting to get further into advertising intelligence for business optimization that allows for smarter and smarter marketing.

Omniture, Inc. (NASDAQ: OMTR) is the biggest volume stock in the pre-market at NASDAQ after getting acquired by Adobe Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE).

Key Analyst Upgrades in Technology (ADBE, ALU, BBBB, CSCO, JNPR, INTC)

We have five standout analyst calls in coverage this morning’s analyst universe for technology stocks.  While Intel is in here, there are actually several other more important calls on the analyst front this morning.

Adobe Systems (ADBE) was raised to Buy from Hold at Kaufman.  Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) was raised to Buy from Underperform at BofA/Merrill.
Blackboard (BBBB) is more in software, but it was upgraded to Overweight from Market Weight at Thomas Weisel.  Cisco Systems (CSCO) was raised to Buy from Hold at Citigroup, as was Juniper Networks (JNPR).

Also, after Intel (INTC) reported such strong numbers, we are seeing analysts ratchet price targets.  Credit Suisse stayed at ‘outperform’ but raised target to $22 from $18…. FBR stayed at ‘market Perform’ but raised the target to $18.50… Broadpoint AmTech kept a Buy and raised teh target to $23 from $19… Auriga is staying cautious, but lifted its price target to $13 from $12…

Adobe Follows So-So Reception Trends (ADBE)

Adobe LogoAdobe Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE) has just posted earnings.  The Flash and Acrobat software king has posted $0.35 non-GAAP EPS and $704.7 million in revenue.  Thomson Reuters had estimates at $0.35 EPS and $694.75 million in revenues.
