The Alerian MLP Index has gained 20% through June 7, versus 16.3% for the S&P 500. The Alerian Index has pulled back 4% from its recent highs, and the MLP team at Credit Suisse Group AG (NYSE: CS) says it is time to reload on their favorites now at better entry points.

We have written recently about the increase in domestic oil production and the coming American energy independence. The Credit Suisse team is in total agreement and now believe that U.S. oil production is at least two years ahead of their former timeline. They also believe that increased oil production is extremely bullish for the MLPs for a variety of reasons.

Here is a list of top, high-quality MLPs to buy from Credit Suisse. As a reminder, MLP distributions can contain return of principal.

Williams Companies Inc. (NYSE: WMB) is a favorite stock to buy at Credit Suisse. Insiders have bought the stock on the recent decline. The Credit Suisse price target is $49. The Thomson/First Call estimate is lower at $41. Unitholders are paid a 4,0% distribution.

Access Midstream Partners L.P. (NYSE: ACMP) is one of the leading players of the industry. It owns, operates, develops and acquires natural gas, natural gas liquids and oil-gathering systems in the United States. The Credit Suisse target for the stock is $46, while the consensus target is $47. Unitholders receive a 4.2% distribution.

EQT Midstream Partners L.P. (NYSE: EQM) is an aggressive growth stock, as revenue increased 43% last quarter and its income almost doubled. Up more than 130% since its initial public offering, growth prospects remain solid. Credit Suisse has a $47 price objective, the same as the consensus target. Unitholders are paid a 3.2% distribution.

Genesis Energy L.P. (NYSE: GEL) operates in the midstream segment of the oil and gas industry, focusing on pipelines and storage, among other areas. Most analysts anticipate earnings growth of 31% and 29% in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Credit Suisse has a $53 price target, while the consensus is at $51. Unitholders are paid a 3.9% distribution.

Cheniere Energy Inc. (NYSEMKT: LNG) plans to begin exporting liquid natural gas from its first train at Sabine Pass by the end of 2015, with the second train following shortly after. Two more trains are expected to come online in the following year. The company’s Corpus Christi liquefaction facility is targeting a 2017 in-service date. Credit Suisse has a $38 price target, and the consensus is at $38 as well.

MarkWest Energy Partners L.P. (NYSE: MWE) recently raised capital by selling more than 40 miles of recently constructed high-pressure gas gathering pipelines, certain rights-of-way related with the pipelines and two compressor stations totaling more than 21,000 horsepower of combined compression in West Virginia. Credit Suisse has a $73 target, and the consensus is at $70. Unitholders are paid a 4.9% distribution.

Sunoco Logistics Partners L.P. (NYSE: SXL) engages in the transport, terminaling and storage of crude oil and refined products in the United States. Its Crude Oil Pipelines segment transports crude oil principally in Oklahoma and Texas. The Credit Suisse price objective is $72, and the consensus target is quite lower at $66. Unitholders receive a 3.7% distribution.

Targa Resources Corp. (NYSE: TRGP) has put together a combination of natural gas midstream and downstream processing assets that have allowed the company to pay a steadily increasing distribution, by 10% to 12% per year, with every expectation to continue the growth rate into the future. Credit Suisse has an $82 target, but the consensus is much lower at $72. Unitholders are paid a 3.0% distribution.

Credit Suisse stocks to buy at these lower levels may provided investors with fantastic total return potential. We have stressed that, although prices have come in, the market may be poised for a larger correction. Buying half positions now and keeping some powder dry may be a solid game plan.

MLPs underperformed the broad market last year. Now we have investors getting a catch-up trade, with MLPs delivering 22.6% in total returns year-to-date, as measured by the market-cap weighted Alerian MLP index and by the JPMorgan Alerian MLP Index ETN (NYSEMKT: AMJ), compared to 17.9% for the S&P 500. The MLP research team at Credit Suisse is attending the National Association of Publicly Traded Partnerships (NAPTP) investor conference this week. The firm has issued its list of MLP stocks to buy for income investors.

Investors need to understand that MLPs are technically “units” rather than shares, as these are partnership interests rather than shares of stock. The largest MLP conference of the year is on tap, and the mood is expected to be considerably more festive this year than last year. Fundamentals remain strong, particularly in the oil production area, though pipeline additions are contributing to falling basis. Natural gas liquids (NGL) production continues also to surprise to the upside, especially in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays.

Here are Credit Suisse’s top MLPs to buy now for the next 12 months.

Williams Companies Inc. (NYSE: WMB) is the top stock to buy at Credit Suisse. The company’s strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its good cash flow from operations, expanding profit margins and increase in stock price during the past year. The Credit Suisse price target for the stock is $49. The Thomson/First Call estimate is $40.50. Shareholders receive a 3.60% distribution. Remember, MLP distributions can contain return of principal.

QR Energy L.P. (NYSE: QRE) may be a stock to buy for yield-hungry investors. QR Energy recently has expanded into the Permian Basin, and it now makes up 35% of production and proved reserves. Credit Suisse has a $20 price target, and the consensus is at $20 as well. Investors are paid a whopping 11.20% distribution.

Cheniere Energy Inc. (NYSEMKT: LNG) is the operator of the coveted Sabine Pass LNG terminal and is the leader in the export of the product. Credit Suisse has a $38 price target, but the consensus target is much lower at $32. The company does not pay a distribution.

Targa Resources Corp. (NYSE: TRGP) recently completed a $625 million senior note offering to reduce current borrowing costs. Credit Suisse has an $82 target on this top name. The consensus is much lower at $73. Shareholders are paid a 2.90% distribution.

Cheniere Energy Partners L.P. (NYSEMKT: CQP) is a subsidiary of Cheniere Energy. This is the Cheniere entity that actually owns and operates the Sabine Pass LNG terminal. Credit Suisse has a $31 target for the stock. The consensus is $26, which is below its current trading level. Shareholders are paid a solid 6.00% distribution.

Crosstex Energy L.P. (NASDAQ: XTEX) engages in gathering, transmission, processing and marketing natural gas, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and crude oil primarily in the north Louisiana, north Texas and Ohio River Valley. Credit Suisse has a $22 price objective, while the consensus is at $21. Shareholders receive a very nice 6.40% distribution.

Access Midstream Partners L.P. (NYSE: ACMP) is one of the MLP names to buy. The company has established a large-scale position in all the key unconventional basins in the United States. Credit Suisse’s $46 price target is right in line with the consensus target. Investors are paid a 4.30% distribution.

Genesis Energy L.P. (NYSE: GEL) announced it will expand its existing rail terminal in Natchez, Miss., designed to handle straight and minimally diluted bitumen delivered by the Canadian National Railway, and construct a new unit train loading facility in the heart of the Powder River Basin of the Niobrara Shale Play. Credit Suisse has posted a $53 price target. The consensus is at $51. Investors are paid a 3.80% distribution.

The Credit Suisse team has stressed and continues to emphasize a more defensive posture, and they are focusing their attention on large, relatively liquid, investment grade MLPs or affiliates with exposure to the coming crude oil production boom in North America. Given the solid run by MLP names so far this year, that advice makes good sense for investors.

Well, this cannot be love, so it must be war.

The Financial Times this morning is citing “two people familiar with the situation” who say that Softbank, which owns about one-third of China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba, has been telling investment bankers that if they want a piece of Alibaba’s coming initial public offering (IPO), the banks had better pass on helping fund an offer from Dish Network Corp. (NASDAQ: DISH) for Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S). Softbank’s $20.1 billion offer for Sprint has been topped by an offer of $25.5 billion from Dish.

Alibaba’s IPO is the hottest thing on Wall Street since the IPO of Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB). The IPO is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of this year or early next year at a valuation in the neighborhood of $60 billion to $80 billion. Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) sold about half of its 40% stake in Alibaba back to the Chinese firm late last year for total consideration of about $7.6 billion. That placed a valuation of around $40 billion on Alibaba.

A consortium of nine banks, including Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C), Credit Suisse (NYSE: CS), Deutsche Bank A.G. (NYSE: DB), HSBC Holdings PLC (NYSE: HBC), J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) and Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) recently refinanced $8 billion in Alibaba debt at lower interest, and the nine are believed to have the inside track on the coming IPO.

How credible is a threat from Softbank to withhold the IPO from banks that cooperate with Dish? Investment banks are almost desperate for profitable Asian business and Softbank’s message is pretty clear, even if the Japanese company has not said as much directly. But even though Softbank owns a big chunk of Alibaba, the Japanese probably cannot tell the Chinese which banks to use. The banks will get the message without having to be told.

The end of March brought on the last trading of the quarter, with the S&P Index hitting new all-time closing highs in what felt like a very choppy couple of weeks. While we still have not raised our official 14,590 price target for the Dow Jones Industrial Average as the peak for 2013, we will be adjusting that number by the end of the first week of April. 24/7 Wall St. has laid a blueprint and road map for what you should watch for in the month of April as the bull market continues despite the woes in Europe.

We evaluated many key market and economic issues for this April bull market road map. Companies raising dividends, the lists of stocks to buy and stocks to sell, the top merger trends, activist investors, gold and oil, tax issues, quantitative easing, the best bank stocks to buy, the earnings season on the way and many more key issues were considered.

In case you missed the last trading day of the quarter, here is the closing bell report for March 28. There are generally two sides of a story, and so it is with the bullish case for stocks. It is interesting that some of the financial media already has started discussing whether investors should take the “sell in May and go away” strategy in 2013 when April’s trends are not even set or determined. We wanted to review a few key statistics so far year-to-date (YTD), now that the first quarter has officially ended.

After a 52-point gain to 14,578.54, the DJIA is up 11.2% YTD.

After a six-point gain to 1,569.19, the S&P 500 Index is up 10.0% YTD.

Gold ended up 1% in March at $1,596, but is down about 5% YTD.

The 30-year Treasury yield was 2.95% at the end of 2012 and closed at 3.10% at the end of the first quarter.

Risk-On: The S&P Speculative Composite Spread (junk bonds over Treasuries) was about 566 basis points at the end of 2012, but was down to 509 basis points at the end of March.

We have indicated how and why 10 big stocks will lead the charge to take the S&P 500 to new all-time highs with the likes of General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) and Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG). What is so interesting is that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) has fallen by 16% year-to-date and is currently the largest market cap of all stocks. Imagine how well the market would be if it actually was participating in the rally.

Watch for dividend news. International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) should be just one of the five big cap dividend hikes we expect in April, and watch for more share buyback news from the company as well. Also on the dividend and tax front, UBS gave a list of closed-end funds that are tax-free municipal bond funds.

The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) woes may not be fully behind it, but the 787 Dreamliner tests are being expanded, and by the end of April the market should have a very clear picture about the battery situation on the new planes. The stock is challenging 52-week highs, but there is another $14 or so of upside before the stock chart is back at all-time highs.

Biogen Idec Inc. (NASDAQ: BIIB) is leading the biotech wave to all-time highs on the heels of a new FDA approval for yet another solid multiple sclerosis drug. Analysts are going to have play catch up or they will be forced to downgrade the stock on valuation. This stock hit new all-time highs in both of the final two trading days of March. A group called PropThink has offered up a list of its favorite biotech ideas to buy, and we would note that most of the big biotechs are at or close to all-time highs.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) is going to be one to watch. The short interest has risen sharply, likely on the growing pressure that Vodafone Group PLC (NASDAQ: VOD) wants to do something with its 45% stake in Verizon Wireless.

Here is a list of stocks to buy from the Merrill Lynch core portfolio holdings. Another very important list of stocks is the Deutsche Bank A.G. (NYSE: DB) list of 20 continued winning stock picks for the secular bull market. Secular bull market? That means very long term.

If you think that quantitative easing is about to end and that interest rates are due to scream higher, the speech from Fed President Evans shows internal support for keeping the genie in the bottle for well through the end of 2013 and perhaps much longer.

One thing to watch is a growing bubble in dividend stocks. It seems that some of these juicy dividend yields are getting a bit overbought as short sellers are really going on the offensive here against these high-quality high-yield dividend stocks. The biggest bubble looks to be forming in American Electric Power Co. (NYSE: AEP), unless it raises its payout again.

Japan remains key to the quantitative easing measures. If you want to know if all of that quantitative easing effort in Japan really will get rid of all the historic 20-plus year trend of stagflation and no growth, all you have to do is watch the WisdomTree Japan Hedged Equity (NYSEMKT: DXJ). This tracks Japanese stocks but eliminates the yen-weakening risk. That exchange traded fund is up a sharp 17.1% year-to-date,while its unhedged counterpart is up 10.7% year-to-date.

Also, watch out for the trends following activist investors and mergers. The Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL) merger bidding war against (or with) Michael Dell is just one small tip of this activist investor iceberg. We have warned of an activist investor bubble influencing hundreds of billions of dollars worth of companies. This may keep taking shape throughout April, May and as long as the bull market keeps supporting attacks on management to milk out slightly better returns. Merrill Lynch also gave a list of the next leveraged buyout candidates of stocks to buy.

And there is just so much more to consider.

Earlier this week we reported on how MLP stocks performed in a rising interest rate environment. Many MLP investors most likely breathed a sigh of relief when the historical data showed that MLP stocks tend to perform very well during interest rate increases.

In a recent report the MLP analyst team at Credit Suisse Group A.G. (NYSE: CS) not only defined historical MLP performance versus rate hikes, but they also came out with a list of names to own for the next 12 months.

For a review, MLPs outperformed the S&P 500 between mid-2004 and mid-2007, the last period of rising interest rates in the past 20 years. MLPs lagged the performance of utilities during that time and were roughly in line compared to REITs. All of these income-oriented equities outperformed bonds. The outperformance relative to the S&P 500 in the 2004 to 2007 period does not necessarily mean MLPs would outperform again should interest rates increase. However, there are factors currently in place that lead the Credit Suisse analysts to believe that MLPs would perform solidly again should interest rates rise.

The Credit Suisse research team has picked the following nine top names that investors should own for the next 12 months.

Liquefied natural gas leader Cheniere Energy Inc. (NYSEMKT: LNG) kicks off the list. It has LNG terminal projects in Texas and Louisiana. The Credit Suisse price target is $33, and the Thomson/First Call consensus price target is $25.

Houston-based Targa Resources Corp. (NYSE: TRGP) provides midstream natural gas and natural gas liquid (NGL) services in the United States. The price target for the stock is $76, and the Wall St. estimate is $67. The company also pays investors a quarterly 3.0 % distribution. Remember, a distribution from MLPs can contain return of principal.

Investors searching for big distributions may want to look at QR Energy L.P. (NYSE: QRE), which sports an 11% distribution. The price target for QR Energy is $20. The consensus target is right in line at $20.

A subsidiary of Cheniere Energy, Cheniere Energy Partners L.P. (NYSEMKT: CQP), also makes the Credit Suisse top nine picks for the next 12 months. With a 6.80% distribution and a $28 price target, this is a solid name for investors also seeking income. The consensus price target is $27.50.

Dallas-based Crosstex Energy L.P. (NASDAQ: XTEX) is also a Texas and Louisiana oil, gas and natural gas liquids leader. With a $20 price target and an above average 7.50% distribution, Crosstex is another solid total return play for investors. The consensus price target is $19.

Genesis Energy L.P. (NYSE: GEL) operates three segments in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. The Pipeline Transportation, Refinery Services and the Supply and Logistics segments keep revenues consistent and growing. The Credit Suisse price target is $52 and the company pays a 4.30% distribution. The consensus price target is $47.

DCP Midstream Partners L.P. (NYSE: DPM) recently strengthened their cash position with a $500 million 10-year bond offering. The company has a $47 price target and pays investors a solid 6.10% distribution. The consensus estimate is at $48.50.

Based in Oklahoma City, Access Midstream Partners L.P. (NYSE: ACMP) is the former Chesapeake Midstream Partners. It has a focus on natural gas and natural gas liquid operations. The Credit Suisse price target for this popular name is $42. Investors receive a 4.50% distribution. The consensus target is in line at $41.

The final name on the list of stocks to buy for the next 12 months is Tesoro Logistics L.P. (NYSE: TLLP). It has multiple income streams from crude oil gathering, terminalling, plus transportation and storage. The target price for Tesoro Logistics is $57. The company pays modest 3.60% distribution. The consensus target is $53.

MLP stocks have posted a solid first quarter this year, after underperforming the market in 2012. Investors looking for growth and income stocks may want to review their portfolios and see if they have investments that would suffer in the event of interest rates increases. If so, they may want to swap in to some of these top MLP picks.

I already have gone on the record that the taxation of deposits in Cyprus is nothing short of theft. Regardless of a bloated banking system that was in shambles, taking depositors’ assets under this method is wrong and it does not just target Russians and offshore depositors evading taxes. It does not even just target the wealthy. This also targets the average person on the ground. The ripples are being felt elsewhere throughout Europe (and here in America) as it poses secondary and tertiary bank and regulatory risks.

Here is how the ADRs of the European banks are being hit in New York trading.

National Bank of Greece S.A. (NYSE: NBG) is at a new 52-week low with a drop of more than 7% to $0.92.

Banco Santander S.A. (NYSE: SAN) is down 4% at $7.47, and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A. (NYSE: BBVA) is down 4% at $9.69.

The Bank of Ireland (NYSE: IRE) is down almost 3% at $8.75.

The iShares MSCI Italy Capped Index (NYSEMKT: EWI) represents all of Italy and is down 3% at $12.20, as this nation has no government at the moment and is too big to bail out.

Even the major banking stocks are down: Deutsche Bank A.G. (NYSE: DB) is down 4% at $42.80, UBS A.G. (NYSE: UBS) is down 3% at $15.90, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (NYSE: RBS) is down 4.3% at $8.87, Lloyds Banking Group PLC (NYSE: LYG) is down 2% at $2.97, Barclays PLC (NYSE: BCS) is down 3.6% at $18.53 and Credit Suisse Group A.G. (NYSE: CS) is down 3.5% at $27.42.

Before you stress too much about this, the impact is being overblown by the doomsday crowd and it is being made fun of as inconsequential by some of the financial media. Cyprus is a nation of 800,000 or so inhabitants with an economy of less than 20 billion euros. Its banking system was extremely large compared to the economy and was in shambles. The nation needs its bailout dollars.

This is just not how to fix things.

The looming risk (or likely fact) that interest rates will rise has been on the mind of investors and Wall St. analysts and pundits for quite some time. Most will concede that the Treasury bond market, after a stunning 30-year rally, will be the largest casualty when rates start their inevitable climb. But many investors are concerned about other sectors that will be affected. In a research report out today, the MLP team at Credit Suisse Group A.G. (NYSE: CS) looks at how rising rates may affect MLP stocks.

Master limited partnerships (MLPs) outperformed the S&P 500 during mid-2004 and mid-2007, the most recent period of rising interest rates in the past 20 years. However, other factors currently in place lead the Credit Suisse analysts to believe that MLPs would outperform again should interest rates rise.

MLPs have done a solid job building on their January gains. Following January’s 12.6% rise, the market-cap weighted MLP AMZX index held up quite well in February with a gain of 0.9%, though the index lagged the S&P 500, which gained 1.4% for the month. In March, the AMZX has moved sideways, gaining 0.66% while the Cushing MLP index has added 1.24%. For the year, the AMZX has gained 14.2% year-to-date, far outpacing the 9.5% gain for the S&P 500 but trailing the Cushing MLP Index’s 15.4% year-to-date gain. The Credit Suisse team still believes that an increased focus on crude oil infrastructure should drive performance, given the boom in North American crude oil production.

Given the historical performance of MLPs in a rising rate environment, the Credit Suisse MLP list of stocks to buy and own for the next three to five years may offer outstanding total return performance.

Plains All American Pipeline L.P. (NYSE: PAA) still tops the list at Credit Suisse, with a price target of $60. The Thomson/First Call consensus target is $57. The Plains distribution is 4.20% paid quarterly. Remember, MLP distributions can include return of principal.

Houston-based Kinder Morgan Inc. (NYSE: KMI) owns and operates energy transportation and storage assets in the United States and Canada. The company operates in six segments and is truly one of the most diversified MLPs. The Credit Suisse price target on this powerhouse is $44. The consensus target is $41. Kinder Morgan pays a 4.10% distribution.

Because of their corporate diversity, Kinder Morgan Management LLC (NYSE: KMR) also makes the list of top MLP names. The price target at Credit Suisse is $97. The consensus target is $88.12.

Magellan Midstream Partners L.P. (NYSE: MMP) transports, distributes and stores petroleum products in the United States. The Credit Suisse price target for this top name is $55. The consensus target is $51.50. Magellan pays a 4% distribution.

The last name on the list of core holdings for three to five years is Enterprise Products Partners L.P. (NYSE: EPD). Another Houston-based MLP leader, Enterprise Products provides midstream energy services to producers and consumers of natural gas, natural gas liquids (NGLs), crude oil, refined products and petrochemicals in the United States and internationally. The price target at Credit Suisse for this one is $60.50. The consensus estimate is in line at $61. The distribution rate at Enterprise is 4.70%.

Investors are well advised to review their portfolio and look for stocks, exchange traded funds or mutual fund holdings that could suffer in the face of rising interest rates. We have written on many occasions that it is not a question of if rates will rise, it is simply a question of when.

About a month ago, analysts at Credit Suisse AG (NYSE: CS) <a href="http://247wallst.com/2013/02/15/credit-suisse-pounds-the-table-on-four-top-mlp-picks-cs-trgp-gel-acmp-paa-kyn-srv/"title="Credit Suisse Pounds the Table on Four Top MLP Picks (CS, TRGP, GEL, ACMP, PAA, KYN, SRV)" >touted several master limited partnerships (MLPs) with Overweight ratings and raised price targets. The companies in that list included Targa Resources Corp. (NYSE: TRGP), Genesis Energy L.P. (NYSE: GEL), Access Midstream Partners L.P. (NYSE: ACMP) and Plains All American Pipeline L.P. (NYSE: PAA). Today, the Credit Suisse analysts looked at the other side of the coin. The payouts remain solid, but some are not as lofty as they have been.

El Paso Pipeline Partners L.P. (NYSE: EPB) was downgraded from Outperform to Neutral based on valuation. The analysts see decelerating distribution growth as the company absorbs the drop-downs associated with the acquisition of El Paso Corp. by Kinder Morgan Inc. (NYSE: KMI). The price target was raised by $1.00 to $44.00, and the total return was forecast at 9% to 13%.

Tesoro Logistics L.P. (NYSE: TLLP) was downgraded from Outperform to Neutral because the analysts believe the company is fairly valued. The target price on the common units was raised from $49 to $53. Credit Suisse sees a compound annual growth rate of 17.3% over the next five years.

EQT Midstream Partners L.P. (NYSE: EQM) also was downgraded from Outperform to Neutral on a valuation basis. The unit price has increased 25% so far in 2013, which Credit Suisse considers to be the company’s fair value. The target price was raised from $39 to $41 on a total return potential of 7% to 14%.

CVR Refining L.P. (NYSE: CVRR) has been upgraded from Neutral to Outperform based on a comparison with its MLP peers, and the distribution forecast was raised to $6.15 per common unit, which is near the upper end of the company’s $5.30 to $6.30 guidance. Credit Suisse raised the price target to $34.00, which the analysts believe could be conservative if the WTI-Brent spread widens.

We have noted before that the S&P 500 outperformed the Alerian MLP Index (AMZX) in 2012 and that the MLPs are making up some ground so far in 2013. Both the Alerian MLP Index ETN (NYSEMKT: AMJ) and the Kayne Anderson MLP Investment Co. (NYSE: KYN) closed-end fund are outperforming the S&P 500 by about 4% or so since the beginning of the year. But all MLPs are not created equal, as Credit Suisse pointed out today.
