Money Stack ImageDendreon Corporation (NASDAQ: DNDN) was started with a Buy rating and a $36.00 target at Deutsche Bank.  The call’s positive expectations are mixed near-term, but the assumption is that Provenge will become a blockbuster product in the fight against metastatic Prostate cancer. ASCO Winner: Biovest May Be The Next Dendreon (BVTI, ABPIQ, DNDN)

Money Stack ImageOne of the largest percentage gainers with data released at the American Society of Clinical Oncology was none other than an OTC micro-cap company called Biovest International, Inc. (OTC: BVTI).  Technically, this is a majority owned subsidiary company of Accentia Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. (OTC: ABPIQ).  The company has nothing to do with Dendreon Corp. (NASDAQ: DNDN) in the business, but the targets of the potential products use the body’s own immune system to fight tumors strike a similar interest.  And this weekend’s data released was far better than most were expecting from a company of this size.

We also covered this one in our weekly “10 Stocks under $10″ Newsletter as one with a big win under its belt.  The percentages of success were that large.  As noted:

Dendreon Takes In More Than $200 Million in New Cash (DNDN)

Money Stack ImageDendreon Corporation (NASDAQ: DNDN) is selling stock to raise cash.  The company has announced a spot secondary offering of 10.7 million shares in a public secondary offering of common stock.  This comes on the heels of an exponential stock gain, even after insiders unloaded enough stock to secure millionaire statuses for quite some time.

Dendreon Insiders Unload Stock (DNDN)

money-stack-image1There was an interesting twist in the ongoing Dendreon Corp. (NASDAQ: DNDN) story that developed after 5:00 PM Friday.  There was a whole series of FORM 4 filings insider sales filings with the SEC.  While it is obvious that most of these were options being exercised and company stock grants, it was hard to not notice how many insiders sold stock.  If the insiders sold this many shares, it is very likely that other company employees sold as well.  This is probably not such a surprise when you have a company’s stock rise tenfold from the lows and when many employees become instant stock option millionaires.  But still, there is the hope that Dendreon will have a blockbuster drug for advanced prostate cancer after  (and if) PROVENGE is approved by the FDA at some point in 2010.  There are many who believe that Dendreon might even now be a takeover target.  Considering that, does it at least make you wonder if employees are taking this much money out of the stock?

Analysts Piling Into Dendreon (DNDN)

Dendreon Controversy Continues (DNDN)

Dendreon Corporation (NASDAQ: DNDN) was halted today at 13:27:02 ahead of the data embargo due at 2:00 PM EST.  The data for its key Phase III IMPACT study for PROVENGE as a last line of defense in advanced prostate cancer patients is out.  The company said that the median survival rate was extended by 4.1 months to 25.8 months, and the drug increased the 3-year survival rates by 38% compared to the placebo.  The company also reported that there was a 22.5% reduction in the risk of death (31.7% versus 23.0%), which is above that 22% hurdle that the company has said would be required for an FDA approval.  It also exhibited a favorable safety profile and represents the first active cellular immunotherapy for cancer to prolong survival by using the bodies own immune system against cancer.

Full study results are here, and the conference call will take place at 5:30 PM EST (4:30 PM Central Time).  After the pre-halt trading saw a rapid 45% drop and without knowing if NASDAQ is honoring trades around the halt time, there is a high chance that this stock’s volatility is going to be present for some time.

Dendreon’s 24-Hour Countdown With Options (DNDN)

Using stock options in Dendreon Corp. (NASDAQ: DNDN) shows that the expectations of major price moves  have not let up, and the company’s stock is trading up yet again ahead of the data due to be released on Tuesday at the American Urological Association in Chicago.  The data, due to post shortly before the close, could formalize the make-or-break status of PROVENGE for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer.  And therefore, the company.  This will hopefully be the first formal data after the company said that its IMPACT study of PROVENGE for advanced prostate cancer met endpoints and was consistent with prior findings.  Again, no formal details nor any formal statistics have yet been offered.  We have the baseline endpoint goal for statistical significance as being 22% and a survival benefit of roughly 4 and-a-half months.
