Fashion accessories maker Fossil Inc. (NASDAQ: FOSL) reported first quarter earnings this morning, and delivered more bad news than good. Investors are responding by fleeing the stock.

The company, which competes with other accessories makers like Guess? Inc. (NYSE: GES) and Movado Group Inc. (NYSE: MOV), posted adjusted EPS of $0.93 compared with a consensus estimate of $0.92. And that’s the end of the good news. Revenue of $589.5 million badly missed the consensus estimate of $617.6 million. Currency translation effects accounted for just $7.3 million of the difference.

But the worst news came in a revised outlook for the second quarter and for the full 2012 fiscal year. Fossil cut its second quarter EPS outlook to $0.77-$0.79, well below the consensus estimate of $0.94. Even adjusting for one-time costs only kicks the range up by $0.07 on either end. Revenue was forecast at +16% (+19% in constant dollars), but also falls short of consensus estimates.

For the full-year, diluted EPS is now forecast at $5.30-$5.40, where the consensus estimate called for $5.56. Again a net adjustment for one-time items only raises the forecast by $0.07. Full-year revenue is also forecast to come in slightly below the consensus estimate of $3 billion.

Analysts had forecast first quarter revenue growth of 15% year-over-year, second-quarter growth of 17%, and full year growth of 16.9%. But from the lower base set by first quarter sales, the projections are tossed out. Which makes the EPS estimates even less likely.

Fossil’s margins fell from 56.2% last year to 55.8% this year due to higher labor and component costs and more sales to third-party distributors. Investors very likely fear that this is just the beginning of sharp slide.

Shares are trading down about -25% in the pre-market, at $94.10 in a 52-week range of $69.57-$139.20. Ugly.

US stock markets opened lower this morning and gradually lost ground throughout the day. A fractionally lower opening bell has translated to around a -0.6% loss on each of the major indexes about half an hour before closing. Last night’s downgrade of the sovereign debt of six European countries set the tone in both Asia and Europe, but by mid-day, a fairly weak report on US retail sales and a more modest than expected rise in business inventories kept share prices from rising. In the late afternoon, Eurozone leaders canceled tomorrow’s meeting on the Greek bailout saying that Greece had failed to meet several demands related to the proposed $172 billion bailout. Germany’s finance minister even displayed a “who cares?” attitude toward the possibility of a Greek default (our story here). Crude oil was mixed today, with larger early gains lost on the weak news and the stronger dollar. WTI crude rose 0.08% to $100.99/barrel and Brent crude rose 0.25% to $117.68/barrel. Gold was down -0.4%, settling at $1,717.70/ounce.

The unofficial closing bells put the DJIA up about 4 points to 12,878.28 (0.03%), the NASDAQ rose less than 1 point (0.02%) to 2,931.83, and the S&P 500 fell -0.09% or just over 1 point to 1,350.5.

There were several analyst upgrades and downgrades today, including Arch Coal Inc. (NYSE: ACI) cut to ‘hold’ at Argus; Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) raised to ‘outperform’ and target price raised to $140 at Credit Suisse; Kinder Morgan Inc. (NYSE: KMI) raised to ‘buy’ at Deutsche Bank; Kinder Morgan Energy Partners L.P. (NYSE: KMP) raised to ‘buy’ at Deutsche Bank; and H.J. Heinz Co. (NYSE: HNZ) started as ‘underweight’ at Morgan Stanley.

Altria Group, Inc. (NYSE: MO) is a defensive stock that is supposed to hold up well, so investors are rolling into “risk” when the DJIA is up so much. Shares were down 0.6% at $24.39 this morning.

AOL Inc. (NYSE: AOL) has already bounced almost 10% from its lows this morning but shares are down 11.5% at $13.33 after hitting a 52-week low of $12.11 this morning. The smaller net loss and ad revenue growth appear to have missed targets, which seems odd considering how much the stock has sold off from its 52-week high of $27.65. At some point, that news should be priced in.

Cablevision Systems Corporation (NYSE: CVC) turned in growth on phone and internet additions, but the earnings missed estimates. The drop was another 9.5% to $17.67 and the stock hit a 52-week low of $17.24 earlier this morning. That is now down more than 50% from its 52-week high as well.

DTS, Inc. (NASDAQ: DTSI) is supposed to provide state-of-the-art audio technology to hundreds of millions of DTS-licensed consumer electronics products worldwide, but its earnings miss shows it isn’t powering enough of the devices with a lower 2011 guidance. DTS shares are down over 21% at $23.17 and the stock hit a 52-week low of $20.93 this morning.

EnerNOC, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENOC) is supposed to help companies cut their energy use and cut their energy bills but it is not doing enough of it. Besides being unable to use a tax benefit, its growth has peaked as its $280 million to $300 million sales projection for 2011 is the sae for 2012. Many Wall Street analysts downgraded the stock on a huge disappointment. Shares are down almost 36% at $9.20 after a 52-week low was hit of $9.13 and the high was $34.38.

Fossil, Inc. (NASDAQ: FOSL) was supposed to be a jewelry winner as it is not deep into gold and silver exposure. It turns out not to be the case in many of its brands and margins took a beating on higher input costs and on a weak outlook ahead. Fossil shares were down 18.8% at $76.19. Keep in mind that its 52-week trading range is $42.08 to $134.98.

Getty Realty Corporation (NYSE: GTY) gave an update on its Getty Petroleum Marketing operations: it has not received the monthly rental payment for August from its largest tenant under its Master Lease and other leases. Shares are down 13.5% at $17.26 and shares hit a 52-week low of $16.60 versus a high of $32.20.

Limelight Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: LLNW) is getting crushed after missing earnings and missing on revenues and then guiding lower for the third quarter. Shares are down over 30% at $2.27 and the stock hit a low of $2.229 this morning. Just one more bit of proof that communications equipment and expedited content delivery slowing is persisting.

MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) posted a gain after MGM China but the peak appears to have been called on gains. MGM shares are down 4.5% at $11.02 versus a 52-week range of $8.92 to $16.94.

Stereotaxis, Inc. (NASDAQ: STXS) is the sole $1+ stock covered today because it is THE LOSER OF THE DAY with a 59% drop to $1.16 with a new 52-week low and an adjusted 52-week trading range now of $1.13 to $4.67. The company markets cardiology instrument control systems, but apparently doesn’t market them very well. Volume is 5-times normal at over 300,000 shares and the stock. The company reported a wider loss, announced cost cuts, and its CFO is leaving the company. Nice.

(NASDAQ: FEED), Ambac Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: ABK), Capital Product Partners L.P. (NASDAQ: CPLP), Fossil, Inc. (NASDAQ: FOSL), Grand Canyon Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: LOPE), JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: JASO), MBIA Inc. (NYSE: MBI), Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX), Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), Penwest Pharmaceuticals Co. (NASDAQ: PPCO), Qiagen NV (NASDAQ: QGEN), and QuinStreet, Inc. (NASDAQ: QNST).

AgFeed Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: FEED) is down 10% this morning after its earnings showed “an extremely difficult operating environment as a result of a series of severe floods throughout its area of operations.” Shares are down 10.8% at $2.46 on over 65,000 shares.

Ambac Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: ABK) is getting crushed after earnings because it disclosed that it is working on a bankruptcy filing as a contingency. Shares are down 23% at $0.69 on over 1.5 million shares.

Capital Product Partners L.P. (NASDAQ: CPLP) is trading lower on a secondary offering as it plans to offer 5.5 million units to acquire MR Tanker M/T Assos for $43.5 million in proceeds. Shares are down 7% at $8.48 on about 25,000 units.

Fossil, Inc. (NASDAQ: FOSL) is rising on stronger than expected second quarter earnings and a raised 2010 outlook. Shares are up 7.5% at $45.65 on almost 40,000 shares.

Grand Canyon Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: LOPE) beat earnings estimates, but its guidance was short of estimates. Can that be a shock considering the attack on for-profi education? Apparently it is an excuse to sell the stock all over again. Shares are down over 8% at $18.50 on thin volume. The 52-week trading range is $15.87 to $28.46.

JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: JASO) is getting roasted in the sun a bit after posting a profit and raising its sales views. Shares are down 3.3% at $6.35 on about 200,000 shares. The 52-week range is $3.22 to $6.95.

MBIA Inc. (NYSE: MBI) is trading up after it reported a profit in the quarter. Shares were up over 7% at $9.90 on over 400,000 shares.

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) is trading lower after signing a deal with EPIX where Netflix members can “instantly watch an array of new releases and library titles from EPIX streamed over the Internet from Netflix.” Shares are down 1.8% at $114.80 on over 30,000 shares.

Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) had soft earnings and guided in-line for the quarter ahead. It is an earnings nuance… Shares of the speech recognition software leader are down 9.4% at $15.74 on over 200,000 shares.

Penwest Pharmaceuticals Co. (NASDAQ: PPCO) is trading up only marginally after its Endo Pharmaceuticals buyout news. Shares are up almost 5% at $4.96 on the deal that gives the company almost no premium. The 52-week trading range was $1.80 to $4.89.

Qiagen NV (NASDAQ: QGEN) beat earnings but said it is eyeing large acquisitions. The ADRs are down 3.7% at $18.82 on 139,000 shares and the 52-week trading range is $18.06 to $24.00.

QuinStreet, Inc. (NASDAQ: QNST) is a recent IPO and it is surging after earnings. Shares are up 14.5% at $11.46 on only about 5,000 shares. Its post-IPO trading range is $9.91 to $18.25.

(NYSE: ABK), Cirrus Logic, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRUS), Fossil, Inc. (NASDAQ: FOSL), ING Group, N.V. (NYSE: ING), JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: JASO), MBIA Inc. (NYSE: MBI), National Bank of Greece SA (NYSE: NBG), and Priceline.com Incorporated (NASDAQ: PCLN). There is a description of the event/news on each as well as volume and price data.

Allied Irish Banks plc (NYSE: AIB) is down this morning after solid gains yesterday. Today’s drop is nothing more than “related ongoing concerns over the bailout package after the short-term” and that has shares giving back. AIB is down 7.2% at $3.34.

Ambac Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: ABK) is trading lower in sympathy with MBIA; shares are down 4.67% at $1.43.

Cirrus Logic, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRUS) is trading higher this morning after a Cramer reference last night on MAD MONEY on CNBC as an Apple iPad and iPhone winner. Shares are up 6.7% at $12.79 on almost 100,000 shares.

Fossil, Inc. (NASDAQ: FOSL) is trading up after it beat earnings with $0.53 EPS vs. $0.32 from Thomson Reuters consensus estimates. It raised Q2 guidance to $0.32 to $0.34 EPS vs. $0.29 estimates and raised 2010 guidance. Shares are up 5.6% at $37.86.

ING Group, N.V. (NYSE: ING) is down with ADRs from the E.U. as the bailout has “related ongoing concerns over the bailout package after the short-term”… Shares are down 6.5% at $8.26 on over 40,000 shares.

JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: JASO) is trading up after it reported $0.24 EPS per ADS on revenue of $279.2M, above the $0.18 and $265 million estimates from Thomson Reuters. The company also raised guidance for 2010 with shipments to exceed 1GW rather than 900MW previously offered. Shares are up 5% at $6.75 on over 200,000 shares.

MBIA Inc. (NYSE: MBI) is trading lower this morning after posting a $1.48 billion loss of -$7.22 EPS after a $2.2 billion pre-tax unrealized loss on insured credit derivatives. Revenue was down 13% to $1.77 billion. Shares are trading down 13.4% at $8.08 versus a 52-week range of $3.19 to $10.92.

National Bank of Greece SA (NYSE: NBG) is down again, like most days. After E.U. ADRs and markets sold off the bank was one of the major drops seen. Shares are down over 5% at $2.91 after a $3.07 close yesterday.

Priceline.com Incorporated (NASDAQ: PCLN) is down over 10% after earnings last night. The company beat earnings expectations. Its guidance for Q2 failed to impress due to Iceland’s volcano woes and unrest in Thailand. Shares are down 11.5% at $220.95 on thin pre-market trading volume.
