Asia Markets And Europe Open (11/20/2009)

Markets in Asia fell.

The Nikkei was down .5% to 9,498. Sony NYSE:SNE) fell after its investor meeting. Mitsubishi UFJ (NYSE:MTU) gained back some losses.

The Hang Seng fell .7% to 22,451.

The Shanghai Composite was down .4% to 3,308.

At the open in Europe, the FTSE was up .3% to 5,281. The Dax rose .5% to 5,727. The CAC 40 rose .4% to 3,775.

Asia Markets And Europe Open (11/19/2009)

Markets in Asis were mixed.

The Nikkei fell 1.3% to 9,549. Mitsubishi UFJ (NYSE:MTU) fell. Honda (NYSE:HMC) and Toyota (NYSE:TM) fell. Sony (NYSE:SNE) was also off.

The Hang Seng dropped 1% to 22,643. China Mobile (NYSE:CHL) ticked up.

The Shanghai Composite rose .5% to 3,321.

At the open in Europe, the FTSE dropped .2%. The Dax was off .2% to 5,777. The CAC 40 dipped .2% to 3,320.

Mitsubishi UFJ (MTU): Banks Have Access Capital Markets

Large U.S. banks have raised money to improve their capital position this year, in some cases because the government required them to do so. Bank analysts have worried that a wave of write-downs on commercial real estate and credit card debt might require some big financial firms to go back to the funding well. That raises the question of whether institutional investors still have any appetite for putting money into global banks.

Those concerns about bank funding may have been allayed a bit. Mitsubishi UFJ (NYSE:MTU), the largest bank in Japan and a major investor in Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS), is raising $11 billion. The firm has already filed papers with Japan’s Ministry of Finance to sell common shares.

Market in Asia were mixed.

The Nikkei was down .6% to 9,677. Japan Air hit a low for the year. Mitisubishi UFJ (NYSE:MTU) posted strong earnings after the close.

The Hang Seng dropped .2% to 22,840. HSBC (NYSE:HBC) fell.

The Shanghai Composite was up .6% to 3,303.

At the open in Europe, the FTSE was up .3% to 5,363. The Dax rose .6% to 5,813. The CAC 40 was .6% to 3,853.

The Nikkei was up .2% to 9,791. Mitsubishi UFJ (NYSE:MTU) fell.

The Hang Seng rose 1.7% to 22,944.

The Shanghai Composite was up 2.7% to 3,275.

At the open in Europe, The FTSE was up .7% to 5,332. Rio Tinto (NYSE:RTP) rose. The Dax was up 1.2% to 5,752. The CAC 40 rose .8% to 3,837.

The Nikkei fell .4% to  9,770. Mitsubitchi UFJ (MYSE:MTU) fell.

The Hang Seng was up .7% to 22,554.

The Shanghai Composite rose .5% to 3,188.

At the open in Europe, the FTSE was down .3% to 5,267. Rio Tinto (NYSE:RTP) fell. The Dax moved down .1% to 5,660. The CAC 40 fell .6% to 3,787.

Asia Markets and Europe Open (11/11/2009)

chinaMarkets in Asia were mixed

The Nikkei rose a fraction to 9,871. Japan Air rose on news it may get government funding. Mitsubishi UFJ (NYSE:MTU) also rose.

The Hang Seng was up 1.6% to 22,627.

The Shanghai Composite fell .1% to 3,175.

At the open in Europe, the FTSE was up .9% to 5,279. The Dax rose .9% to 5,655. The CAC 40 rose 1% to 3,824.

The Nikkei fell 1.8% to 9.891, Mitsubishi UFJ (NYSE:MTU) rose.

The Hang Seng fell 2.7% to 21,173. HSBC (NYSE:HBC) and PetroChina (NYSE:PTR) fell.

The Shanghai Composite dropped 2.3% to 2,850.

The Nikkei dropped 6% to 10.297. Mitsubishi UFJ (NYSE:MTU) fell and Honda (NYSE:HMC) rose.

The Hang Seng was down 1% to 22,098. China Mobile (NYSE:CHL) fell.

The Shanghai Composite fell .6% to 3,951.

At the open in Europe, the FTSE fell 1.4% to 5,164. The Dax was off 1.6% to 5,741. The CAC 40 fell 1.5% to 3,816. Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) fell on poor earnings.

The Nikkei was down .2% to 10,237. Mitsubishi UFJ (NYSE:MTU) rose.

The Hang Seng was up 1.1% to 22,179. CNOOC (NYSE:CEO) and PetroChina (NYSE:PTR) rose.

The Shanghai Composite was up 2.1% to 3,028.

At the open in Europe, the FTSE rose .9% to 5,235. The Daxx was up .8% to 5,791 and the CAC 40 rose .8% to 3,855.

Asia Markets And Europe Open 9/25/2009

chinaMarkets in Asia fell.

The Nikkei slide 2.8% to 10,269. Nomua fell sharply as did Mitsubishi UFJ (MTU).

The Hang Seng fell a fraction to 21,042. China Mobile (CHL) and HSBC (HBC) fell.

The Shanghai Composite was off .5% to 2,837.

At the open in Europe, the FTSE rose .3% to 5,095. The Daxx rose .1%  to 4,608. The CAC 40 was flat at 3,753.

Market Holidays Challenging Morgan Stanley Financing (MS, MTU)

Morgan_stanley_logoThis highly anticipated deal to fund Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) with $9 billion from Japan’s largest bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: MTU), cannot come fast enough.  Both sides have come public to say the deal is still on, yet Morgan Stanley shares have plunged this week along with the rest of the market.  Its stock trades at roughly half of what it traded just on Monday.  This is a pretty sad affair right now, but holidays closing key markets on Monday are actually blocking this deal from funding until Tuesday, October 14, 2008.
