If there is such a thing as conventional wisdom in investing, which may be doubtful, one often touted rule is to avoid low-priced stocks. The most common reason given for this advice is often that they are low-priced for a reason. Fair enough, but it is important for investors to remember that at one time smartphone and tablet giant Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) was a single-digit priced stock. Investors who bought Apple at the bottom made a tremendous amount of money.

Another reason cited by some trading pundits is that low-priced stocks, especially those under $5, are not marginable. Again, a true statement. Investors looking to get leverage on stocks have a built-in advantage with low-priced names. They already are priced low, so more shares can be bought and require less capital than high-priced stocks. In addition, many low-priced shares have options traded on the underlying shares. Investors can always seek leverage via the option markets.

We looked through our research database for solid names that not only had good stories, but had Wall St. coverage. Typically the last thing large bulge bracket firms, or any firm for that matter, wants to do is pitch a low-priced name that gets crushed. Here are the names we found that investors may want to consider.

8×8 Inc. (NASDAQ: EGHT) kicks off the under $10 list. The company offers voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) telephone service in addition to contact centers, web-based conferencing and cloud-based computing services. Often rumored as a takeover candidate, the stock was raised to Outperform by Northland Capital in March with an $8 price target. The Thomson/First Call estimate for the stock is actually higher at $9.

Recently upgraded to buy at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs, ON Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: ONNN) fits the bill. ON Semiconductor designs, manufactures and markets semiconductor components for electronic systems and products worldwide. The Merrill Lynch price target for the stock is $11. The Wall St. consensus estimate is $10.

Oppenheimer recently raised wireless chip maker RF Micro Devices (NASDAQ: RFMD) to outperform status. It also put a $7 price target on the stock. The consensus estimate is $6.

Another solid semiconductor stock to make the list is Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (NASDAQ: AMCC). After it recently announced that eight of the worlds largest optical module manufacturers are using its S28032 multiplexer, the industry’s fastest, lowest power transmitter solution, analysts are expecting year-over-year revenue growth for the first quarter to be up close to 15%. The consensus price target is $10.25.

Investors willing to bet on future success may want to look at BPZ Resources Inc. (NYSE: BPZ). Owning license agreements for oil and gas production on 1.9 million acres of land in Peru, it is waiting for its earnings ship to come in. Analysts at Raymond James who cover the stock are looking for an almost 25% increase in revenue from 2013 to 2014. The consensus price target for the stock is $5.25. That represents a 100% increase from current trading levels.

Another stock that barely squeaks under the $10 level to make our list is exchange traded fund (ETF) sponsor and manager, Wisdom Tree Investments Inc. (NASDAQ: WETF). Having already made a solid run this year, Wisdom Tree is a stock to buy at Merrill Lynch with an $11 target. The consensus estimate is a touch higher at $11.50.

A smaller medical device name to grace our under $10 list is dentistry laser manufacturer BIOLASE Inc. (NASDAQ: BIOL). Allowing dentists to perform a multitude of procedures, the laser surgery is far less painful to the patient than more conventional and invasive surgeries. It has virtually no debt and revenues growing, and Northland Capital recently upgraded the stock to outperform with a $7 target. The consensus target is $5.22.

The ultimate low-priced stock with potential, telecommunications giant and perennial underachiever Alcatel-Lucent S.A. (NYSE: ALU) was promoted from Hold to a stock to buy at Deutsche Bank A.G. (NYSE: DB) today. Already gapping up more than 10% in premarket trading, this ill-fated combination of the old Bell Labs, which was renamed Lucent, with France’s national phone company Alcatel, has frustrated investors for years with a chain of bad management and industry missteps. The consensus price target for the stock is $1.57. That may be eclipsed today after their upgrade.

Read also: 19 Stocks Expected to Rise 50% to 100% — or More!

We always stress to our readers that it is important to do your own due diligence when considering any stock purchase. All things being equal, you are always “safer” owning the bluest of blue chips or the SPDR S&P 500 (NYSEMKT: SPY) ETF. Taking a shot at quality lower priced names that have Wall St. coverage and visibility might be a great way to add some of that vaunted Alpha to your portfolio.

Within the portfolio, they use a designated weighting for each stock that makes the cut. For the individual investor, the benefit of a selected portfolio versus indexing and just buying the SPDR S&P 500 (NYSEMKT: SPY) is a chance to add return above what the index performance is.

The equity analysts at Bank of America Corp.’s (NYSE: BAC) Merrill Lynch unit have constructed a 10-sector Core Portfolio for the top clients at the firm. We screened each sector for the stock that had the highest percentage weighting. If the weightings matched, we then screened for the stock with the largest market capitalization. We left out three sectors that had very low weightings in the portfolio of 3% or less.

The following are the top names to buy from the Merrill Lynch Core Portfolio.

In information technology, which is the sector with the largest weighting within the portfolio, credit card giant Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) is the top choice. The Thomson/First Call price target for this widely held stock is $176.

The financial sector is led by banking and investment powerhouse J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM). The Wall St. consensus price target estimate for the bank is $54.

In the health care sector, Gilead Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ: GILD) is at the top of the list. Pouring research and development into its drug pipeline has kept this top-ranked company hitting on all cylinders. The consensus price target for Gilead is $49.

In energy, independent oil and gas exploration and production leader Occidental Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: OXY) makes the grade. It has oil and gas operations across the United States and superior long-term reserves in California. The consensus estimate for the stock is $98. This could be a top pick, as the price target represents an almost 30% move from where the stock is currently trading.

In the industrial sector, Honeywell International Inc. (NYSE: HON) ranks at the top. It is getting a huge boost from a booming construction revival, and the consensus price target for this widely held name is $77.

In the consumer discretionary category, another stock benefiting from the increase in construction across the United States makes the Core Portfolio list. Home Depot Inc. (NYSE: HD) has a consensus price target of $75.

The winner in the consumer staples category is another mega cap retailer. Benton, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) is the top pick to buy. The consensus price target is $80.

Read Also: Deutsche Bank’s Top Secular Bull Market Stock Picks

Investors looking to beat the indexes have always relied on Wall St. firms to flex their research muscle and deliver data and stock picks that will outperform. One clear reason many investors like model weighted portfolios, as is the case with the Merrill Lynch portfolio, is out-of-favor sectors can be avoided, or underweighted, to a very low percentage. This can help drive much higher portfolio performance.

After taking a look at various Dow Jones Industrial Average components and after taking a look at value stocks, 24/7 Wall St. wanted to see just how the great big conglomerates are doing and what their prospects are ahead. We recently cited that Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK-A) is outperforming the stock market so far in 2013 and this leads us to ask: What is the best conglomerate for investors now that earnings season has brought their earnings and now that we have 2013 and 2014 expectations?

We reviewed Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK-A), General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE), 3M Co. (NYSE: MMM), Honeywell International Inc. (NYSE: HON) and United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) to see which conglomerates had performed the best and which had the most implied upside according to Wall St. analysts.

For a comparison, as of Friday the DJIA itself is up by 6.4% year-to-date, and the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average (NYSEMKT: DIA) is up 6.7% year-to-date. The S&P 500 Index is up by 5.85%, and the SPDR S&P 500 (NYSEMKT: SPY) is up right at 6% year-to-date. We have reviewed performance to date, the forward price-to-earnings ratios, the implied upside and the dividend yield of each company in evaluating our top conglomerate pick after a month into 2013.

We recently gave informal upside to our DJIA 14,590 top price target for 2013, but that has not been formally raised as of yet. For that upside to exist, the conglomerates have to perform well too. These are all screens that will be run by value investors looking for the best stocks to buy now or in the future.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK-A) is now at $146,260, versus a 52-week range of $116,850 to $148,562, and is up 9.1% year-to-date. Berkshire Hathaway is actually too thinly followed by analysts to give consensus price target data, and the company discourages using earnings as its real metric. These were the top stocks helping Mr. Buffett get ahead of the market so far in 2013. Team Buffett pays no dividend.

General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) is now at $22.48, against a 52-week range of $18.02 to $23.18, and it is up by 7.1% so far in 2013. GE trades at about 13.5 times the expected 2013 earnings estimate of $1.67 per share. The Thomson Reuters consensus price target of $24.86 has risen and risen and now implies that there is upside of about 10.5% still in the stock for the next year. GE leads the dividend yields of conglomerates with a 3.4% yield on its common stock. This remains the top conglomerate by market cap at about $235 billion. GE’s finance activities are improving each month, and it still has a chance to grow organically and via bolt-on acquisitions. There is also substantial value to unlock down the road via spinoffs.

Honeywell International Inc. (NYSE: HON) is priced at $70.37, and it has traded in a 52-week range of $52.21 to $70.44. Its stock is up about 10.8% so far in 2013. Honeywell trades at about 14.2 times the expected 2013 earnings estimate of $4.95 per share. The Thomson Reuters consensus price target of $74.45 implies that there is upside of 5.8% still in the stock for the next year. Honeywell’s dividend yield is about 2.3% as of now. J.P. Morgan recently opined that Honeywell should reconsider additional spinoff efforts to unlock value.

3M Co. (NYSE: MMM) trades at $102.22, against a 52-week range of $81.99 to $102.99, and it is up by 10.1% so far in 2013. 3M trades at about 15 times the expected 2013 earnings estimate of $6.84 per share. The Thomson Reuters consensus price target of $106.33 implies that there is upside of 4% still in the stock for the next year, and its dividend yield is 2.3%. 3M just hiked its dividend, so its yield is in transition at the moment compared to traditional screens as the new dividend yield would be 2.48%. 3M also just instituted another $7.5 billion share buyback program against a market cap of $70 billion.

United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) trades at $89.95, against a 52-week range of $70.71 to $90.75, and it is up by 9.7% so far in 2013. United Tech trades at about 14.8 times the expected 2013 earnings estimate of $6.09 per share. The Thomson Reuters consensus price target of $96.26 implies that there is upside of 7% still in the stock for the next year, and its dividend yield is now about 2.4%. Its recent buyback approval of 60 million shares (more than $5 billion at the time) is against an $80 billion market cap.

From an outlook perspective, GE continues to be the most favorable conglomerate. It is up more than the broad market but is so far lagging its peers. That underperformance may be partly because its $200+ billion market cap is so much higher than its peers and the law of big numbers gets in the way. Another issue holding GE down is likely that it is still considered to be a bulky conglomerate that could unlock much more value with spinoffs if the market conditions will permit it ahead. With a lower forward P/E ratio, the highest dividend yield by far and above-market upside of more than 10%, GE takes the cake for the best conglomerate for investors to own for the rest of 2013.

Our December 5 story identifying the biggest trade since the subprime short pointed out some inescapable facts about the longest rally ever in Treasury bonds.

The Treasury market has rallied for almost 30 years. Yields have ranged from Paul Volcker highs of more than 16% on the long bond and Fed funds at 21.5% to lows of 2.45% on the long bond and .18 basis points on Fed funds back in July of this year. Selling off back to the 16% level is all but impossible, but a move back up to a 4%, 5%, 6% or even 7% yield in Treasury notes and bonds is not out of the question. Again, the vexing question is when?

We asked when a month ago. Now we are asking whether it already has begun. On the day our story first appeared, the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond (TYX) closed at a 2.78%. Friday the yield hit an intraday high of 3.17%, a 14% increase, before finally closing at a 3.11%. That is a dramatic yield move in the bond markets.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS) already is calling for higher Treasury yields, on top of the yield rise we have seen in recent days and weeks. With the 10-year yield around 1.935% now, the bulge-bracket firm and primary dealer sees the 10-year Treasury yield rising up to 2.00% to 2.25% in the near term. The question that must remain in the back of investors’ minds is whether this time really will be different. If the DJIA does rise more than 11% to our 14,590 peak target of 2013, will bonds still be as attractive? Very likely that answer is no.

So how does one put the trade on? Buying intermediate-dated TIPS, or Treasury inflation-protected securities, may be one idea. The logic is that rising interest rates will portend rising inflation, which will increase the value of the bonds. This may be the safest way to play the trade, especially owning TIPS that mature in 2019 or later.

Shorting the actual bonds, or an ETF like the iShares Barclays 20 Year+ Treasury (NYSEMKT: TLT) or Vanguard Long-Term Government Bond Index (NASDAQ: VGLT), may make sense. But when you are short bonds or interest-paying ETFs, you are responsible for paying the interest on the carry. This is in addition to the stock or bond loan cost. Short of a world disaster, the 2.45% low last July may very well be the bottom. But if this proves to be a head fake, the carry and loan cost could become expensive.

You can also purchase the leveraged short Treasury ETF, PROSHARES Ultrashort 20+ Treasury (NYSEMKT: TBT). While it certainly will provide you upside in a sustained Treasury sell-off, it has proven to be an inefficient vehicle that does not always accurately track rising yields.

One option strategy to consider is selling short the 55 strike TBT puts that expire in January of 2015 for $5.10 a contract and take in the cash proceeds. Each contract you sell will bring in $510 less commission. You are agreeing to buy the stock in January of 2015 or earlier at $55 per share, which is almost 18% below Friday’s price of $66.91. You can either keep your cash proceeds and hope the contract expires worthless or cover by buying the puts back if TBT trades higher. You also could use your proceeds to buy the TBT January 2015 90 strike call options at $5.10. Here you literally have two trades on the short. There is no cost to you except commissions, but you have to be willing to buy the stock if it trades at or below the 55 strike.

Shorting puts is a very aggressive strategy. It is not recommended for conservative investors or those unfamiliar with the option and derivative markets. However it may provide you with the most leverage to the trade at a cost lower than shorting actual ETFs or bonds. The risk-reward here is substantial, with the 30-year Treasury yield at less than half its long-term historical level. It may seem like a dangerous trade, but so was shorting the subprime market when real estate was booming.

Wien is now vice chairman at Blackstone Advisory Partners, and this was his 28th year in which he has offered his views on a number of issues for the coming year.

Mr. Wien is not bullish on stocks. 24/7 Wall St. issued a peak target of 14,590 for 11% upside in the DJIA (NYSEMKT: DIA). Wien sees the S&P 500 (NYSEMKT: SPY) falling in 2013. Wien assigns a one-in-three chance of each of his major surprises coming to fruition to an average investor, but with better than 50% likelihood of one happening, according to him.

We have not just regurgitated his predictions. We have added stocks to watch, ETFs that would come into play and other color if applicable on each. Byron’s 10 Surprises for 2013 are as follows:

1. Iran announces it has adequate enriched uranium to produce a nuclear-armed missile and the International Atomic Energy Agency confirms the claim. Sanctions, the devaluation of the currency, weak economic conditions and diplomacy did not stop the weapons program. The world must deal with Iran as a nuclear threat rather than talk endlessly about how to prevent the nuclear capability from happening. Both the United States and Israel shift to a policy of containment rather than prevention.

2. A profit margin squeeze and limited revenue growth cause 2013 earnings for the Standard & Poor’s 500 to decline below $100, disappointing investors. The S&P 500 trades below 1300. Companies complain of limited pricing power in a slow, highly competitive world economic environment. If Byron is right, then that is bad news for the SPDR S&P 500 (NYSEMKT: SPY).

3. Financial stocks have a rough time, reversing the gains of 2012. Intense competition in commercial and investment banking, together with low trading volumes, puts pressure on profits. Layoffs continue and compensation erodes further. Regulation increases and lawsuits persist as an industry burden. This would not be good for Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) as it was the best DJIA performer in 2012 with gains of 100%. Meredith Whitney raised her expectations and said Buy Bank of America at the end of 2012, but now investors have to hope for more price hikes and analyst upgrades for the run to continue.

4. In a surprise reversal the Democrats sponsor a vigorous program to make the United States independent of Middle East oil imports before 2020. The price of West Texas Intermediate crude falls to $70 a barrel. The Administration proposes easing restrictions on hydraulic fracking for oil and gas in less populated areas and allowing more drilling on Federal land. They see energy production, infrastructure and housing as the key job creators in the 2013 economy. This would be bad for United States Oil (NYSEMKT: USO) and the likes of Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) due to price, but might be better for Market Vectors Oil Services ETF (NYSEMKT: OIH) for a recovery on volume.

5. In a surprise reversal the Republicans make a major effort to become leaders in immigration policy. They sponsor a bill that paves the way for illegal immigrants to apply for citizenship if they have lived in the United States for a decade, have no criminal record, have a high school education or have served in the military, and can pass an English proficiency test. Their goal for 2016 is to win the Hispanic vote, which they believe has a naturally conservative orientation and which put the Democrats over the top in 2012.

6. The new leaders in China seem determined to implement reforms to root out corruption, to keep the economy growing at 7% or better and to begin to develop improved health care and retirement programs. The Shanghai Composite finally comes alive and the “A” shares are up more than 20% in 2013, in contrast with the previous year when Chinese stocks were down and some developing markets, notably India, rose. This would be a base for the iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fund (NYSEMKT: FXI), but we would note that this is already at highs.

7. Climate change contributes to another year of crop failures, resulting in grain and livestock prices rising significantly. Demand for grains in developing economies continues to increase as the standard of living rises. More investors focus on commodities as an investment opportunity and increase their allocation to this asset class. Corn rises to $8.00 a bushel, wheat to $9.00 a bushel and cattle to $1.50 a pound. There are the Teucrium Corn (NYSEMKT: CORN), Teucrium Wheat (NYSEMKT: WEAT) and the iPath DJ-UBS Livestock TR Sub-Idx ETN (NYSEMKT: COW) exchange-traded products to follow here.

8. Although inflation remains tame, the price of gold reaches $1,900 an ounce as central bankers everywhere continue to debase their currencies and the financial markets prove treacherous. This would be a boom for SPDR Gold Shares (NYSEMKT: GLD) and other gold ETFs. $1,900 gold would translate to about $187 per share, rather than about $163 today.

9. The Japanese economy remains lackluster and the yen declines to 100 against the dollar. The Nikkei 225 continues the strong advance that began in November and trades above 12,000 as exports improve and investors return to the stocks of the world’s third largest economy. The iShares MSCI Japan Index (NYSEMKT: EWJ) would be a focus, with CurrencyShares Japanese Yen Trust (NYSEMKT: FXY) as the device to hedge against a yen currency.

10. The structural problems of Europe remain largely unresolved and the mild recession that began there in 2012 continues. Civil unrest subsides as the weaker countries adjust to austerity. Greece proves successful in implementing policies that reduce wasteful government expenditures and raise revenues from citizens who had been evading taxes. European equities, however, decline 10% in sympathy with the U.S. market. The news is not great for CurrencyShares Euro Trust (NYSEMKT: FXE), and would be really bad news for Vanguard MSCI Europe ETF (NYSEMKT: VGK) and the SPDR EURO STOXX 50 (NYSEMKT: FEZ) ETFs.

Every year there are always a few surprises that do not make the top 10. Wien says this is because he either does not believe they are as relevant as those on the basic list or because he is not comfortable with the idea that they are “probable.” Below are several “also rans” that did not make the top 10 surprises, along with issues to watch for each:

11. Having traded below 20 for most of 2012 the VIX Volatility Index surges 33% to 30, providing a bonanza for traders. The decline in the S&P 500 increases market volatility. iPath S&P 500 VIX ST Futures ETN (NYSEMKT: VXX) is close to the lows of the past year now with volatility so low.

12. The Newtown, Connecticut, massacre finally convinces Congress to do something about gun control. As a first step they ban future civilian purchases of automatic weapons, including handguns, with clips of more than ten rounds and require more extensive background checks on all gun purchases. “It should not be easier to buy a gun than rent a car” becomes a slogan. Smith & Wesson Holding Corp. (NASDAQ: SWHC) and Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc. (NYSE: RGR) have been hit hard since the massacre but have recovered handily due to fears perhaps being overblown.

13. Frustrated by an inability to increase revenues through raising income taxes, Congress begins to consider different approaches. There is more talk of a value-added tax as well as a wealth tax, and these ideas appear to be slowly gathering momentum. While there is not an ETF for this, both are called a redistribution and penalty not just for success of the past. One is an incentive tax and one is a tax on the masses.

14. Congress decides that high-frequency and other computerized algorithmic-based trading practices are putting the individual investor at a disadvantage. A transaction fee designed to slow down frenetic activity and protect against “flash crashes” and glitches is imposed on intra-day trades. NYSE Euronext Inc. (NYSE: NYX) is already merging with IntercontinentalExchange Inc. (NYSE: ICE) ahead of the coming changes here. The move still leaves Nasdaq OMX Group Inc. (NASDAQ: NDAQ) out all alone, for now.

15. The planet finds itself saturated with technology. Semiconductor companies, software providers, social media favorites and personal computer manufacturers all report disappointing earnings and provide discouraging guidance. They lead the overall market lower. Users finally agree the present state of the art is fast enough and connected enough, and that they have more “apps” than they know what to do with. Sorry, but that is bad for the likes of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG), Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT), Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC) and it is even bad for Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB).

Stay tuned to the outlooks this week and next.

The market has seen better weekly jobless claims, a higher revised Q3 GDP report and better home sales data this morning. Shares are also higher on more hopes that a fiscal cliff resolution will be made. We are analyzing the SPDR S&P 500 (NYSEMKT: SPY) as the most liquid of all ETFs covering the broad market.

For Thursday’s chart analysis, Phil Erlanger said,

Wednesday saw the trend of below support holding at 10:00 a.m. SPY support was $139.92 and we got a massive reversal to the upside which we did not expect but the value lines caught nicely.

Today SPY is trying to move above resistance at $142.33. Since this is a gap up day watch to see if the five minute low holds at $142.04. Pivot is much lower at $140.66.

It should also be noted that the SPY is back up right at the critical 50-day moving average of $142.38. The 50-day moving average acted as hard resistance earlier this month.

The markets have digested regional Fed data, housing data, and a strong consumer confidence reading. Volume also still feels a bit low and the charts seem to be the guiding force as markets try to adjust from watching each number to watching out how easing measures will continue to play into the markets into 2013. And that Fiscal Cliff issue remains… tick, tock.

For Tuesday’s chart analysis, Phil Erlanger said,

Monday saw SPY range bound pivot to support when we wrote. We noted, “Watch to see if stocks can rebound from early weakness and SPY can move above $140.93. It would be an ominous sign for the market if SPY cannot hold support at $140.46.”

SPY rallied to close above pivot at $141.05. Today we are trading pivot to resistance. Pivot is $140.87. Resistance is up at $141.54. The 5 minute range is $140.93 to $140.75. Several key economic data points are due out at 10:00 a.m. EST that could move markets. Watch to see if pivot holds or we can take out resistance.

For Wednesday’s chart analysis, Phil Erlanger said,

Tuesday saw the SPY open at the low for the day and rebounded to move above support at $137.88 when we penned. Then we rallied to above resistance before a complete failure of the move to finish below support. Currently, SPY is attempting to clear pivot at $138.13 but has yet to do that. Another day of trading pivot to support ahead or worse a break again of support? Pay attention to the value lines today as there is a 1:30 p.m. EST President Obama Press Conference and FOMC Minutes due out at 2:00 p.m. EST.

There is one major issue that is coming up as well today on the chart. The SPYDERS are at $137.45 on last look and the 200-day moving average is at $137.32 as of today.

We are analyzing the SPDR S&P 500 (NYSEMKT: SPY) as it is the most liquid and most representative of the broad markets out of all the ETFs which trade.

For Monday’s chart analysis, Phil Erlanger said:

“SPY had a complete reversal on Friday starting above resistance and finishing below support. Today SPY is trading below pivot at $142.23. The range from resistance to support is wide given Friday’s weakness. Support is $140.74. Watch to see of support is challenged early in the session. We note the 5 minute low needs to hold at $141.15 within the first hour of trading.”

It is also worth noting that Friday brought on a failed test of the 50-day moving average on the SPYDERS and that 50-day moving average is up at $143.38 as of now. See the full chart below.

For Thursday’s chart analysis, Phil Erlanger said:

Yesterday we noted that, “Today SPY is trading resistance to pivot which is an improvement over the past couple of days. However, if the weakness continues then pivot could be broken at $141.44.” This happened as we closed at $141.02. Today we are hanging in above resistance, barely. We have moved below the 5 minute ranges. Get long a move above the 5 minute high of $142.28 or short a break of resistance at $141.81.
