Tech Titans Still Have $269 Billion Cash For Deals (MSFT, CSCO, AAPL, GOOG, INTC, HPQ, QCOM, EMC, VMW, YHOO, DELL, ORCL, JAVA, AMZN, EBAY)

The recovery is on and mergers are happening, yet the technology sector has been slow to make deals.  Despite some deals already having taken place from the technology giants and that $260 billion cash balance which was there in the middle of last quarter is even larger now.  The tally for cash by our count is now right around $269 billion.  We looked through the top market caps of technology companies in our 24/7 Wall St. Real-Time 500 and this list is expanded now that some issues have been resolved in all the companies.  The stocks in this group are Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT), Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG), Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC), Oracle Corp. (NASDAQ: ORCL), Sun Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA), Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HPQ), QUALCOMM Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM), EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM), Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL), Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO), Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), and eBay Inc. (NASDAQ: EBAY).

These few tech companies with the $269 billion cash that could be deployed for mergers, acquisitions, or the good old dividends are also listed before tallying up credit lines, factoring, debt sales, and other creative financing methods.  We have listed the suppositions and counting methods for each one to illustrate how much is available at each company.

VMware Delivers (VMW)

VMware LogoVMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) has just posted its Q3 earnings report of $0.24 EPS on a non-GAAP basis on $490 million in revenues.  Thomson Reuters had estimates at $0.20 EPS on $473.95 million in revenues. The US revenues were down 1% from a year ago at $246 million, while international revenues rose 9% to $244 million.

VMWare Slows, Yet Stock Soars (VMW)

VMware Inc. (NYSE: VMW) is showing that the limitless growth of virtualization either does have some limits or that the recession put a real cap on its growth.  The virtualization leader posted $0.20 in non-GAAP EPS on revenues of $465 million.  Thomson Reuters had consensus estimates as $0.19 EPS and under $453 million in revenues.  The company’s net income fell 38% after items to $33 million, or $0.08 EPS, on higher operating expenses.

Virtualization War: Oracle/Sun & VI Acquisition vs. VMware & Microsoft (ORCL, JAVA, MSFT, VMW, EMC)

Oracle LogoOracle Corp. (NASDAQ: ORCL) is already in the process of acquiring Sun Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA).  This morning came an announcement that Oracle was buying a private company called VirtualIron.  Normally private company buyouts are tiny, but this is a solid and established virtualization player for undisclosed terms.  It will allow Larry Ellison and friends to be a lower cost provider against virtualization leader VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) and may allow Oracle to compete against Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) in one more arena.

Analysts & Charts Capitulate in VMware (VMW)

(NYSE: VMW) is down sharply this morning on fairly aggressive selling.  The company’s guidance is the culprit, and that is on top of soft revenues.  Then this morning we have seen many analysts throwing in the towel here.  We would expect to see even more calls throughout the morning.  There are some more clearly defined levels on the charts now as well.  Here are today’s analyst downgrades or cautious calls:
