Americans Will Spend $7.1 Billion on July 4th Celebrations
June 28, 2017 by Douglas A. McIntyreThe National Retail Federation (NRF) expects the 219 million Americans who will celebrate the 4th of July holiday weekend to spend a total of $7.1 billion. That is up from $6.8 billion in 2016.
The average amount spent on the celebrations will be $73.42, which primarily includes cookouts, travel, fireworks and parade attendance. The NRF found that 11.6% of those surveyed will not celebrate at all.

The survey found that 65 percent of consumers already own a U.S. flag, 53 percent patriotic-themed apparel such as T-shirts, bathing suits or shoes, and 40 percent own patriotic decorations. Nonetheless, 28 percent plan on purchasing more patriotic items.
