They are called “barndominiums” which means, as the word says, barns of one sort or another, which are converted into homes. The most visited listing on realtor.com last week was a barndominium built in Weatherford, Texas, which is a small town west of Forth Worth. It is for sale fo $399,000

The home, at 2686 McClendon Rd in Weatherford, has four bedrooms and three bath. It has 3,360 square feet and sits on 5.38 acres. It was built in 2006. There is a free form pool at the center of the three buildings on the property.

Weatherford was founded in 1854 by settlers, less than two decades after Texas broke away from Mexico. Its population in 2016 was 29,686. The town has grown like a weed. The population rose 32% from 2000 to 2010, 28% from 1990 to 2000, and over 20% in five of the six decades before that, according to the Census. That puts its population at 5,934 in 1940.

The median income for a household in Weatherford just above $51,000 which puts is about $4,000 shy of the national average. Eighty six percent of the population is White, and 10% Hispanic. At 30 miles from Fort Worth, it is something of a commuter town.

The property around the structures is barren and arid. However, this means there is probably no lawn to mow.
