October 18, 2016 by Paul Ausick

October 18, 2016: Here are four stocks trading with relatively heavy volume among 42 equities making new 52-week lows in Tuesday’s session. On the NYSE, advancers led decliners by more than 3 to 1 and on the Nasdaq advancers led decliners by nearly 2 to 1.

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE: ANF) dropped about 2.9% on Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $15.14 against a 52-week high of $32.83. Volume of about 1.9 million was about 33% below the daily average of around 2.9 million. The stock closed at $15.60 on Monday night. The specialty retailer had no specific news.

Tractor Supply Co. (NASDAQ: TSCO) lost about 0.4% Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $65.24 after closing Monday at $65.54. The 52-week high is $97.25. Volume of about 1.6 million was about 10% below the daily average of around 1.8 million shares traded. The farm and ranch supply retailer had no specific news.

Ascena Retail Group Inc. (NASDAQ: ASNA) lost about 1.6% Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $5.01 after closing Monday at $5.09. The 52-week high is $14.03. Volume of around 1.5 million was about 35% below the daily average of about 3.2 million shares traded. The retail group that includes Ann Taylor and Lane Bryant hand no specific news Tuesday.

Bed, Bath & Beyond Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBY) dropped about 0.7% on Tuesday to post a new 52-week low of $40.14 after closing at $40.42 on Monday. The stock’s 52-week high is $61.49. Volume was about half the daily average of around 2.2 million shares. No news here either, but notice that all four of today’s losers are retail stocks. That says something about expectations for the quarter that ends this month for most retailers.
