Nuance, Helios and Matheson Stumble into Thursday’s 52-Week Low Club

May 10, 2018: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 56 equities making new 52-week lows in Thursday’s session. On the NYSE advancers led decliners by about 2.34 to 1 and on the Nasdaq, advancers led decliners by about 1.5 to 1.

Helios and Matheson Analytics, Inc. (NASDAQ: HMNY) fell by about 22% Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $0.63 after closing at $0.79 on Wednesday. The 52-week high is $38.86. Volume of about 25 million was more more than three times the daily average of about 7.4 million. The company said in a Monday SEC filing that it needs to raise more cash to prop up its MoviePass business. Nuance Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) dropped about 20% Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $12.19. Shares closed at $15.28 on Wednesday and the stock’s 52-week high is $19.49. Volume of around 19 million shares was about nine times the daily average. The company reported indifferent results Wednesday night but cut its outlook for revenue growth.

L Brands Inc. (NYSE: LB) traded down about 10% Thursday and posted a new 52-week low of $30.70 after closing Wednesday at $34.12. The stock’s 52-week high is $63.10. Volume totaled around 14 million, about three times the daily average of around 4.5 million. The company warned that profits would we lower than expected when it reports quarterly results on May 23.

Ultra Petroleum Co. (NASDAQ: UPL) traded down about 15% Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $2.08 after closing Wednesday at $2.45. The stock’s 52-week high is $12.39. Volume was about 30% above the daily average of around 4 million shares. The company reported results last night that were less than expected.
