Wednesday’s Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

June 6, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.9% at 2,772.24. The DJIA closed up 1.4% at 25,143.98. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 0.7% at 7,689.24.

Wednesday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets. The Nasdaq continued its streak and closed at another record high. Crude oil backed off again dropping right at $65. The S&P 500 sectors were mostly positive with one glaring exception. The most positive sectors were materials and financials up 1.6% and 1.7%, respectively. The worst performing sectors were utilities and consumer staples down 2.3% and 0.2%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading down 0.7% at $65.05.

Gold was last seen trading flat at $1,301.00.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close was Brown-Forman Corp. (NYSE: BFB) which traded down about 6% at $52.44. The stock’s 52-week range is $51.94 to $55.57. Volume was about 3 million compared to the daily average volume of 1 million.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Equifax Inc. (NYSE: EFX) which rose 6% to $124.70. The stock’s 52-week range is $89.59 to $147.02. Volume was 2.6 million compared to the daily average volume of 1 million.
