Ford, NXP Semiconductor Plummet into Thursday’s 52-Week Low Club

July 26, 2018: Here are four stocks trading with heavy volume among 87 equities making new 52-week lows in Thursday’s session. On the NYSE advancers led decliners by about 1.43 to 1 and on the Nasdaq, advancers led decliners by about 1.21 to 1.

Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) dropped about 6.5% Thursday to set a new 52-week low of $9.84. Shares closed at $10.52 on Wednesday and the stock’s 52-week high is $13.48. Volume was approaching three times the daily average of around 36 million. The company reported weak numbers and guidance after the bell Wednesday.

NXP Semiconductors NV (NASDAQ: NXPI) traded down about 8.3% Thursday to set a new 52-week low of $90.25. Shares closed at $98.37 on Wednesday, and the 52-week high is $125.93. Volume was about six times the daily average of around 7.7 million. The company’s proposed merger with Qualcomm has been abandoned. The $2 billion break-up fee might salve a few wounds.

Nielsen Holdings plc (NYSE: NLSN) traded down about 27.3% Thursday and posted a new 52-week low of $21.49 after closing Wednesday at $29.57. The stock’s 52-week high is $43.61. Volume totaled around 33 million, nearly 10 times the daily average. The company cut profit guidance this morning and announced that the CEO is retiring.

Barrick Gold Corp. (NYSE: ABX) traded down about 6.5% Thursday to post a new 52-week low of $11.05 after closing Wednesday at $11.82. The stock’s 52-week high is $18.35. Volume was more than double the daily average of about 9 million shares. The company missed earnings estimates this morning.
