Monday’s Top Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

August 13, 2018: The S&P 500 closed down 0.4% at 2,821.95. The DJIA closed down 0.5% at 25,186.21. Separately, the Nasdaq was down 0.3% at 7,819.71.

Monday was a down day for the broad U.S. markets, with all three major indexes taking a dip to start the week. Crude oil took a small step backward in the session as well. The S&P 500 sectors were practically all negative. The most positive sector was real estate up less than 0.1%. The worst performing sectors were energy and financials down 1.3% and 1.0%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading down 0.4% at $67.33.

Gold was last seen trading down 1.4% at $1,201.40.

The stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was Lennar Corp. (NYSE: LEN) which fell about 5% to $50.76. The stock’s 52-week range is $48.69 to $72.17. Volume was about 4 million compared to the daily average volume of 3.7 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was Nielsen Holdings PLC (NYSE: NLSN) which traded up about 11% at $24.41. The stock’s 52-week range is $20.53 to $42.16. Volume was about 28 million compared to the daily average volume of 4.7 million.
