Thursday’s Biggest Winners and Losers in the S&P 500

September 13, 2018: The S&P 500 closed up 0.5% at 2,904.22. The DJIA closed up 0.6% at 26,146.27. Separately, the Nasdaq was up 0.8% at 8,013.71.

Thursday was a positive day for the broad U.S. markets. Crude oil took a big step back below $70. The S&P 500 sectors were more or less split down the middle. The most positive sectors were health care and technology up 1.1% and 0.9%. The worst performing sectors were consumer staples and financials down 0.3%, and 0.2%, respectively.

Crude oil was last seen trading down 2.3% at $68.72.

Gold was last seen trading down 0.4% at $1,205.80.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss in the S&P 500 ahead of the close was The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) which fell about 10% to $28.58. The stock’s 52-week range is $19.69 to $32.74. Volume was about 32 million compared to the daily average volume of 9.7 million.

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage gain ahead of the close was DaVita Inc. (NYSE: DVA) which traded up over 5% at $71.31. The stock’s 52-week range is $52.51 to $80.71. Volume was over 2 million compared to the daily average volume of 1.3 million.
