Best US Companies to Work for in 2017

December 7, 2016 by Paul Ausick

Anyone who’s been in the workforce for a few years has probably discovered that not all companies are created equal, at least as far as being good places to work goes. And while pay is important, it’s not the only thing that makes one company more desirable than another.

Online job and recruiting marketplace Glassdoor has just announced the results of its ninth annual Employees’ Choice Awards, naming the best places to work in the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany. U.S. companies have been split into two groups: small and medium businesses with up to 1,000 employees; and large companies with more than 1,000 employees.

Among large U.S. companies, six of the top 10 are technology firms, two are consulting firms, one is fast-food chain and one is a home remodeling firm. Glassdoor bases its ratings on a minimum of 75 company and workplace factor ratings from U.S.-based employees. The maximum possible score is 5.

The top 10 large U.S. firms are:

  1. Bain & Company: 4.6 rating
  2. Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB): 4.5 rating
  3. Boston Consulting Group: 4.4 rating
  4. Google/Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOGL): 4.4 rating
  5. World Wide Technology: 4.4 rating
  6. Fast Enterprises: 4.4 rating
  7. In-N-Out Burger: 4.4 rating
  8. LinkedIn Corp. (NYSE: LNKD): 4.4 rating
  9. Adobe Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBE): 4.3 rating
  10. Power Home Remodeling: 4.3 rating

Glassdoor CEO Robert Hohman commented:

Company culture and the employee experience are critical considerations for job seekers everywhere when deciding where to work. To help, the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards recognize companies that truly stand out as Best Places to Work because they’re purely determined by the authentic voice of those who really know a company best — the employees.

Bain & Company is the first company to rank at the top three times (2017, 2014 and 2012), and is one of only three employers to have made the list for nine consecutive years. The other two are Google and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL), which ranked 36th this year.

Among small and medium-sized U.S. businesses the top 10 are:

  1. Greenhouse Software
  2. Illuminate Education
  3. Entelo
  4. SailPoint Technologies
  5. SeatGeek
  6. MetroMile
  7. Classy
  8. Asana
  9. Sendero
  10. LiveRamp
