JC Penney Wants You to Buy Appliances on Black Friday

November 4, 2016 by Paul Ausick

About a third of the front page of the 72-page Black Friday advertising supplement from J.C. Penney Co. Inc. (NYSE: JCP) is devoted to a 26-cubic foot Samsung refrigerator and a Hotpoint washer/dryer set. There are also front-page deals on diamond jewelry, towels, small kitchen appliances and women’s winter boots. Not a toy in sight.

J.C. Penney stores will open at 3:00 p.m. local time on Thanksgiving day, and the Black Friday deals are good until 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

The first toy does not appear until page 42 of the ad supplement, where J.C. Penney highlights its Disney-branded toys and apparel for kids.

J.C. Penney is promoting its Black Friday appliance deals with sales pricing of up to 40% off available right now. For example, a Samsung 24.6-cubic foot refrigerator (model #RF263BEAESR/AA), regularly priced at $2,399 is on sale for $1,394, a savings of 41%.

Other featured items include a 12-piece set of stainless steel cookware by Cooks priced at $29.99, a savings of $70 based on a sales price of $49.99 and $20 mail-in rebate offer. A 10-piece set of Cooks-brand cookware regularly priced at $200 will have a sale price of $79.99, along with a $20 mail-in rebate, reducing the final price to $59.99, a savings of 70% after all is said and done.

These items were typical of many items we looked at: sale pricing supplemented by a further mail-in rebate.

In electronics, J.C. Penney will be selling a Sharper Image 5.1 Bluetooth home theater system for $79, a savings of 47% from the regular price. No mail-in rebate though, and no coupon offer.

J.C. Penney released the ad Friday for users of its mobile app, or you can view a scanned version at BestBlackFriday.com.
