3 Tips for Shopping on Cyber Monday

November 26, 2016 by Paul Ausick

Black Friday is now in the rear-view mirror and many retailers are gearing up for Cyber Monday, November 28. Some have already lifted the veil on their Cyber Monday deals in much the same way that they teased Black Friday deals for a week or more ahead of the actual day.

Both Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) and Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) promoted Cyber Monday prices beginning on Black Friday. And many other retailers have also posted online flyers advertising their Cyber Monday specials. BFAds.net noted that there were fewer ad flyers this year. Dell Inc., eBay Inc. (NASDAQ: EBAY), and Toys R Us, among others, have announced special deals for Cyber Monday.

BFAds.net also pulled out some specific deals on offer for Cyber Monday:

  • Target Inc. (NYSE: TGT): 15% off nearly everything online and in stores on both Sunday and Monday
  • Kohl’s Corp. (NYSE: KSS): 20% off in-store and online from Nov. 27-30 with code DEALSEEKER
  • Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M): $50 off Samsung Gear S3 and Gear S2 Smart Watches
  • Wal-Mart: Samsung HDTVs over 50% off MSRP
  • Amazon: Amazon Echo for $139.99, a savings of $40

Most online retailers will have Cyber Monday deals. Some, including Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE: BBY), are promoting the deals generally without preview promotion. Its Cyber Monday deals will begin on Sunday and many of them will also be available in brick-and-mortar stores.

That leads to three tips for shopping the Cyber Monday specials:

Avoid Shipping Charges
Many retailers, notably Target and Best Buy, are offering free shipping with no minimum order size on Cyber Monday; others, including Walmart, are not. The folks at BFAds.net are adamant about free shipping:

Under no circumstances should you ever pay shipping charges on Cyber Monday. For that reason, we recommend finding another store if your order does not qualify for free shipping, which should not be hard at all.

Be ready on Sunday
As we’ve noted, many of the Monday sales begin on Sunday and some run through the whole week. Many of the deals will be limited to stock on hand or specific quantities. If you want the best price, shop early and that means Sunday.

Shop at Target
This recommendation comes from BFAds.net:

While there are good things about all the store sales that have announced their information, Target’s event is our favorite. Like last year, they are offering 15 percent off the majority of the store. Unlike last year, this also includes gaming consoles, iRobot vacuums, KitchenAid appliances and all Apple products – including iPhone and Apple Watch. Stores like Macy’s and Kohl’s regularly offer coupons like this, but it is rare for a store in Target’s category. As always, REDcard members can save an ADDITIONAL 5 percent, so it is going to be possible to get some absolute steals at Target this year on Cyber Monday.
