Founded in 1940, Koch Industries is the biggest company in Kansas and one of the biggest private companies in the world. Close to 320 million Americans have health insurance coverage. Health insurance networks are often divided by geographical region, and as a result, there are very large health insurance companies found all over the country. Humana, one of the largest health insurance companies in the United States, is based in Louisville. The company covers more than 14 million Americans, including about 630,000 in Kentucky. Of its over 500 offices and medical facilities, only 26 are in Kentucky and over 200 are in Florida.

In 2007, Indian company Rain Calcining Limited acquired U.S.-based CII Carbon. The resulting company, Rain CII Carbon LLC, relocated its headquarters to Covington, Louisiana in 2014 — some 10 years after it had to move out of the state following the events of Hurricane Katrina. The company reported revenue of $23.6 billion in 2016, and is one of the largest calcined petroleum coke producers in the world.

IDEXX Laboratories is a multinational corporation that develops and manufactures products related to the veterinary and animal testing industries. Since 2006, the company has invested more than $80 million in new facilities throughout southern Maine, where it employs many of its 7,365 employees.

Lockheed has produced many of the military’s most widely-used vehicles, aircraft, and weapons systems.
