Verizon, which is currently the largest U.S. wireless carrier by subscribers, has recently expanded into the media technology business with the June 2015 acquisition of AOL and June 2017 acquisition of Yahoo. The company reported $126.0 billion in revenue in 2016, the most of any company in New York and among the most in the world.

With reported revenue of $4.1 billion in fiscal 2016, Bismarck-based MDU Resources is the largest company in North Dakota. Founded in 1924, MDU builds transportation infrastructure as well as, notably, energy harvesting infrastructure. North Dakota has been one of the fastest growing states in the last decade as the result of the development of its oil resources.

Cardinal supplies hospitals as well as pharmacies such as CVS. The company employs more than 40,000 workers worldwide and manufactures or sources 2.5 billion health care products each year.
