Spotify Artists With the Most Listeners

Music streaming service Spotify dominates the global music streaming market with a 36% market share, or more than 108 million subscriptions. The number of people around the world who pay for a music streaming service is only increasing, and streaming is the primary method of listening to music for many already.

With the growth of its streaming service, Spotify has chosen to expand. The first ever Spotify Awards will be held in Mexico City on March 5, with awards exclusively based on data generated from Spotify users in Mexico.

In anticipation of the event, 24/7 Tempo has identified the 25 artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify. Although the Spotify Awards are (almost) completely based on listeners in Mexico, we have reviewed data from music fans worldwide.

There is significant overlap in the artists that are popular in Latin America and in other locations around the globe. Latin music artists Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, and J Balvin are all among the artists with the most monthly listeners. They’re also up for numerous awards this year. Latin pop is not the only popular music, however, and pop stars such as Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish are also up for awards.

Many of the artists with the most listeners over the past month (28 days to be exact) have released new music as recently as this year, drawing in many listeners. They also frequently partake in collaborations with other prominent pop musicians, thereby sharing fanbases and increasing overall streams. These are the top musical collaborations that hit No. 1 on the singles chart.

24/7 Tempo reviewed the world’s most streamed musical artists on Spotify based on total listeners worldwide for the 28 days ending March 2, 2020. The number of followers on Spotify and most-streamed song for each artist also comes from Spotify.
