Microsoft (MSFT) Tries To Leap Frog Google’s (GOOG) Ad Targeting

February 25, 2008 by Douglas A. McIntyre

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) claims that is has come out with the greatest internet ad targeting system since the beginning of time. "It said its new system, which it calls Engagement Mapping, will measure all the interactions a consumer makes with a Web site before an eventual sale," according to the AP.

Redmond described current ad targeting techniques as Neanderthal, referring in a slightly veiled way to Google’s (NASDAQ: GOOG) AdSense product which sucks up a larger share of marketing dollars on the internet than any other program available.

Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO) tried something similar with it Panama system, but that did not work out well. The Microsoft product may be more clever.
