Short Sellers Mixed on 3D Printing Stocks

Short interest during the two-week period ending June 30 dropped on two of four 3D printing stocks we follow. Share prices also rose on three of the stocks during the two-week period.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) rose by 8.5% to 28.61 million shares. Some 27% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover fell from 11 to seven. In the two-week short interest period, the share price rose 9%. The stock’s 52-week trading range is $6.00 to $19.76, and shares closed at $14.69 on Tuesday, up 7.3% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest fall by 10.7% in the last two weeks of June to about 7.62 million shares, or 15.7% of the company’s float. Days to cover fell from nine to eight. The share price rose by about 6.7% in the period and the stock closed at $23.57 on Tuesday, up about 4.6% on the day, in a 52-week range of $14.48 to $37.82.

Short interest in The ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) rose 1.4% to 1.87 million shares. About 20.5% of the company’s shares were short. ExOne’s share price rose about 4.7% in the period. The stock’s 52-week range is $5.81 to $14.75, and shares closed at $11.07 on Friday, up about 4.6% for the day. Days to cover remained unchanged at 13.

Short interest in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) decreased by 8.1% to 571,873 American depositary shares, with days to cover falling from 14 to 11. The share price fell by about 4.4% in the two weeks to June 30. The stock closed at $4.56 on Tuesday, up about 0.7% for the day, in a 52-week range of $3.50 to $7.50.
