Short Interest in 3D Printing Stocks Seeks Direction

Short interest fell during the two-week reporting period ending November 15 on two of four 3D printing stocks we follow. Trading action mostly favored short sellers, with days to cover falling on all four stocks.

Short interest in 3D Systems Corp. (NYSE: DDD) decreased by 4.8% to 21.93 million shares in the two-week reporting period that ended November 15. Some 19.9% of the company’s float was short. Days to cover remained unchanged at seven. In the short interest period, the share price inched up by 0.8%. The stock’s 52-week trading range now is $8.53 to $21.78, and shares closed at $12.39 on Tuesday, down about 1.7% on the day.

Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS) saw short interest fall by 1.3% in the first two weeks of November to about 6.45 million shares, or 12.8% of the company’s float. Days to cover fell from 15 to eight. The share price rose by 13.7% in the short interest period, and the stock closed at $21.41 on Tuesday, down about 2.8% for the day, in a 52-week range of $17.17 to $26.17.

Short interest in ExOne Co. (NASDAQ: XONE) inched up by 0.1% to 2.57 million shares. About 26.4% of the company’s shares were short. ExOne’s share price soared by about 53.5% in the two weeks ending November 15. The stock’s 52-week range is $6.16 to $12.50, and shares closed at $8.11 on Tuesday, down about 3.2% for the day. Days to cover rose from nine to 12.

Short interest in Voxeljet A.G. (NYSE: VJET) increased by 12.5% to 391,141 American depositary shares, with days to cover rising from one to six. Voxeljet added nearly 11% for the two-week period and closed at $2.52 on Tuesday, down about 2% for the day in a 52-week range of $2.30 to $5.63.
