A123 Production… Too Little Too Late? (AONE)

March 6, 2012 by Jon C. Ogg

On a different day, there might be a different reaction…  A123 Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: AONE) announced earlier today that it had secured three production contracts for lithium ion engine start batteries.  The pacts are production contracts for the company’s 12V Engine Start Battery, and they are said to be with three leading European automakers.

The press release noted, “McLaren Automotive for the MP4-12C and a major German OEM that will use the battery in a 2013 model year passenger vehicle. A123’s Engine Start Battery is designed as a replacement for absorbent glass mat (AGM) and other lead acid batteries, providing a lighter-weight, longer-lasting solution for micro-hybrid functionality that enhances vehicle performance, improves fuel economy and lowers total cost of ownership.”

Any how, on a different day the news might be given more consideration.  A123 shares are up only $0.01 at $1.62 on 1.8 million shares with a 52-week trading range of $1.51 to $8.41.  Alternative energy is just not bringing the attention it used to.
